Swartkop Cottage

I loved the quietness of the place. It is great for resting and to get out of the city.

There is not that much to do so you need to take your own entertainment. The roads aren't great if you want to explore the area. There weren't any hiking routes around.

Location is exactly as described nice views.

Way to get there has a 2km stretch which is terrible. And if it rains, you have to have a high vehicle like 4x4. The owner says that if you stuck they will help. Guess what, no reception so rest assured no one is coming for you. Nearest town is about 20 minutes drive after passing the bad stretch of 2km. Bugs including even snakes are spotted and in numbers. The roof is thatched so a lot of space for spiders and other bugs to feel at home.

If you are craving an off-the-grid location, this place is perfect. Beautiful location, completely private, and so peaceful, with just the cows and the river for company.

The road to get there was a bit rough. A high rise vehicle is necessary, especially in wet weather. Pack fire lighters for the donkey (ample wood provided.)

This beautiful stone cottage on the banks of the Tugela River is an absolute gem. It's quirky and rustic, and at R350 per person, it's excellent value for money. It has a gorgeous deck overlooking the river, very pet friendly, it has a great barbecue and an easy walk down to the river. It's an ideal location, especially if you want to explore the battlefields, with it being located right next to the Spionkop reserve. Gustav was great, with excellent communication maintained with him at all times.

We had a minor issue with the solar lighting, which is being addressed immediately by Gustav. It's all good. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this beautiful cottage.
