Poseidon House

Poseidon House is an amazing quirky property right on the sea. Akin to sleeping on a boat we fell asleep to the waves crashing on the rocks below. You can swim below the house or on the beach a few minutes walk away. The terrace has to be one of Nisyros’ best… huge with shade and comfortable sunbeds. We had everything we needed to enjoy the great town of Mandrakion with its fabulous restaurants.

A great house for two people who happily share a double bed. Not so comfortable if you need an extra bed but we managed!

Loved the sun terrace and the style of the house.

We arrived at night from the ferry. Everything was closed. No proper directions or anyone to ask. It was difficult to find. No name on door. Key safe didn’t work but luckily found key in cupboard. Just hoped we’d found the right house but we DID!!!

There are a lot of good apartments in which to stay in Mandraki, which is a great base for Nisyros - it's lovely town full of original shops (you have to go to separate places for fruit, bread, provisions) and winding narrow streets, and tavernas along the promenade behind the sea wall. But there is only one Poseidon House. Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of dishwasher, the steep steps to bedroom, the lack of privacy on the terrace, the cramped bedroom, etc... We can see, and agree with all of these things. But they miss the point - this isn't any old house, it's a wonderfully imaginatively transformed building, where the accommodation is an attraction itself (rather than grumble at the lack of outdoor privacy, why not pretend you are celebrities in an exclusive location? ;-) We even took photos of other tourists for them, outside the front door) There are so many innovative, quirky, and creative features on a nautical theme, in keeping with its surroundings, with nothing "off the shelf" or from a Swedish furniture maker. The custom made seat cushions and kitchen work surface, the rope lighting above the bathroom sink, the mosaic flooring, the portholes instead of regular windows, the washing machine hiding in a small cupboard in the terrace, the old fashioned style of radio set, and so on. Each design element was thoroughly planned and artistically executed to enhance the overall experience of being in that location. It should certainly appeal to architects, interior designers, and people who sail.

There were a couple of faults that we reported to the host, and we would have appreciated some bottled water being provided - everywhere else we stayed was kind enough to leave at least one bottle. Otherwise, of the 6 places we stayed in the Dodecanese, this was the highest price we paid per night, but we felt it was well worth it for the chance to have such an exciting and unique holiday experience

For starters, the location was spectacular. It was a very short walk to the center of town, and even closer to the best dinner locations along the water. The waterfront setting gave us beautiful views, enhanced by the sound of waves breaking on the rocks by the property. The house itself was exactly as described. We particularly loved the terrace of the bedroom which was furnished with very comfortable lounge chairs, a perfect space to watch the sunset, in addition to the beautiful views all day and night. The decor was excellent throughout the apartment.

We had no significant dislikes. My only minor issue was the lack of a separate shower area - the bathroom was well appointed, but with the open shower, it was hard to keep the floor dry. Perhaps an extra couple of towels could be supplied just for the floor.

Wonderful position, right on the ses, wonderful house curated in every detail, very beautiful

Excellent location and the views from the outside seating area were outstanding - some of the best we have ever had. Lovely taverna behind us underneath the stunning monastery. Apart from the noise of the sea (it was very windy when we were there and the sea was very rough), it was beautifully quiet and we heard no people noise and obviously no traffic noise.

We didn't like the stairs and had to be extremely careful with them.

The veranda can get very windy.
