Suburb Retreat

Location is close to the town centre.

Aircon in living area broken and house was hot on arrival. Had to open all the windows to cool the place down. General sense that this place was run down and little maintenance had been done (e.g cheap dishwasher and basket kept falling off its railings and a very worn out kitchen. All the sofa beds were set up and there were signs not to put them away significantly reducing the floor space and leaving the kids tripping over themselves in the single bed room (2 beds with an unnecessary trundle between them). Definitely not as nice as the pictures. What we found most disturbing was returning home after a day out and finding the back door open. I thought that perhaps we'd left it unlocked but after shutting and locking the door we watched it blow open again in the wind. Definitely not a secure place to leave your belongings.

The location was really excellent. It was just a 10 min walk to town yet the actual location of the house was quiet and peaceful. Down the street (100m) was the lake and there was a beautiful view of The Remarkables from the living room window. The beds were comfortable and it was great to have two bathrooms. Water pressure was excellent, there were lots of products (hand soap, loo paper, cleaning products, coffee, tea, sugar, rubbish bags etc) left for us to use, a full kitchen and a washing machine and dryer. Really good heat pumps in all areas which kept us warm and snuggly. Very informative information folders meant we knew exactly what was expected during our stay and on departure. We also loved using the sunny private courtyard accessible from the kitchen, dining area.

Not a negative but do be aware that the street is steep and the turn into the driveway is tricky. Also not a negative but the layout of the house is unusual with the kitchen/dining area down steps away from the living area. We got used to that quite quickly. It would have been good to have access to a vacuum cleaner and a house broom just to have a tidy up.

Very warm cosy house, near the lake and walking distance to the lake, Botanic Gardens and town centre. Lots of room for a group of 9.

On a steep hill, need to be careful when driving in winter conditions

The property location is excellent! Place is comfortable and provide all basic necessities.

Some facilities are not functioning well, e.g. TV remote control was missing and the living room heater was not functioning. No toiletries provided.
