JOIVY The South Lodge at Balcarres

The accommodation was double booked. Someone was already inside when we arrived. We were told we would receive a code to access keys to the property. No code arrived which suggests they knew the property was double booked. I have submitted an email and made telephone calls to JOIVY and still no explanation what happened. Shocking customer care. I would strongly recommend avoiding this company. Book the accommodation direct with the Balcarres Estate.

Absolutely everything was just perfect. I can’t fault anything

This was the start of our honeymoon, so our expectations were high and we weren’t disappointed. The property was finished to an extremely high standard. We had everything we needed and more. We arrived to fresh milk and butter from the estate in the fridge and fresh bread from the local bakery. There was also tea and coffee. The wood burner was a really lovely feature that was perfect for our late September stay but we managed to sit out in the beautiful garden during the day. I only wish we had stayed longer. All rooms and the garden were exceptional. The baths in the bedroom and bathroom were a real luxurious indulgence and the large shower in the main bathroom was amazing. The location for us was perfect to explore the beautiful Fife coast and wonderful St Andrews which was only about 20mins away. And a massive bonus, the property was dog friendly as are most places in the area.

Nothing really but an en-suite in the main bedroom would have been good, however, the main bathroom is stunning so this is just being picky. The only real issue was check in. We didn’t receive the code to get in the property. I had to make a phone call after we had arrived and was told that I should have completed a booking form that I still haven’t received despite chasing them several times during our stay. We did receive some basic instructions on how to get to the property after we had arrived and this said we should have received the code 24hours before our check in but we didn’t. I was told on the phone they would make an exception for us not having completed the form which I found a little rude as it was their error not ours.

We liked this beautiful and tastefully decorated lodge. We enjoyed great comfort and a modern kitchen. We appreciated a plentiful supply of logs for the log burner in the lounge.

We experienced problems with the electric hob and oven. The temperature control in the shower was not always consistent. One of the televisions in the bedroom did not work as it was not connected to the internet or to an aerial.

A lovely lodge. Clean, and comfortable.
