Douglas Lake Lodge in the Smoky Mountains

It’s a beautiful property with a great pool, tennis court and spacious house. Lots of spacious decks to enjoy the peace and quiet. The house is well appointed with comfy and accommodating furniture. Another nice thing was there were virtually no bugs outside, which was a pleasant surprise while enjoying the outdoors, especially considering the remote wooded location.

There are elements of the house and property that need some TLC to justify the cost of the rental. Because of the expansivenesses of the property it is in desperate need of a guest information booklet on how and where to find things and how things work. (As an example, it took us 2 days to figure out that the court lights were on a timer and that we didn’t accidentally leave the lights on). The property management company does provide an online guide which is a good start, but needs more information. While the property is surrounded by Douglas lake, it would be nice if some of the landscaping were trimmed to allow views of the lake. As it is, the lake is not visible. Additionally, while there is a boat dock, you need to be prepared for a physically demanding and serious hike down a steep incline, and of course, a physically demanding and serious hike back up the hill afterwards. It makes it virtually unusable for a fun day on the lake with a boat.
