Casa Da Formiga

Quite an amazing little spot to give you the feel of having your own vineyard (quinto) property just a few minutes from Peso da Regúa. The weather did not cooperate for us to fully take advantage of the outdoor space, but the views and peace and singing birds were delightful. We appreciated the covered outdoor table for a rainy lunch. The casita provides all that 2 couples or a small family would need to feel at home and not need to go out all the time. I was able to walk into town and back through the vineyard using Google Maps, avoiding the narrowest part of the road.

Only minor issues— we arrived at dusk and were not sure exactly where the front door to the actual rental was. It looks like they used to be open for tastings, so there is a small ‘Entrada’ sign on the main building, and when you drive up the headlights did not show the door with the lockbox. Perhaps add one more small reflective sign to point the way ro the correct door? Second one was the information sheet with WiFi etcetera was not posted where it was supposed to be. Fortunately, communication with the contact number was good and we received the needed password quickly. It would be nice to have a bit of local info provided.

The views and the pool were spectacular

We recently stayed at Casa da Formiga Turismo e vinhos while touring Portugal to celebrate our daughter's 16th birthday. We specifically chose this location for the occasion, drawn by its reputation for amazing views and ambiance. The scenery was indeed breathtaking, and the overall atmosphere of the vineyard was truly spectacular. The casa was a quintessential, perfectly unkept historic house. Unfortunately, our stay was overshadowed by a significant issue. The power was turned off around midnight on our first night(night before birthday), resulting in an uncomfortable, sleepless experience that ruined our plans for the next day. This was particularly disappointing given the special occasion we were there to celebrate. My daughter suffers from a medical condition that is exacerbated by heat(it was 41 degrees out and we had no AC) , and both by partner and I both use CPAP machines due to sleep apnea. We were awake for hours trying to find a comparable place to stay in the area, and had a difficult time falling back to sleep due to the heat, our anger, and frustration. We tried to reach them via their contact #, and ringing the main house doorbell to no answer. The next day we were all exhausted, my daughter was feeling terrible, and I spent hours crying because the special day we planned was ruined because she could not enjoy the day because of how horrible she felt. The host admitted to turning the power off because we had the AC running, and they feared it would start on fire..? They messaged us via the app before turning off the power (11:30)but we were already asleep, and they stated they tried knocking for 3 minutes before cutting power(it’s a small place and we are light sleepers, so it’s highly unlikely) The power went on briefly at 7ish and then back off again until we made contact again at ten knocking on the main house. While the vineyard itself is stunning and offers a beautiful setting, this incident significantly impacted our overall...

The location was great with a great view over the Douro valley. Hanging around the pool was a nice reprieve during our trip. The owners and their daughter were very friendly. They offered to give us a tour of the winery and gave us a bottle of wine of their wine to enjoy.
