Tokoeka PurePod

The pod itself is very cool and nicely laid out. The view is spectacular.

We were disappointed in multiple aspects of our stay, especially for the price. For one, the sliding glass doors did not lock. The lock on the main door that has a code didn’t work at all, and there was a second sliding glass door that wouldn’t lock from the inside like it was supposed to. We called the Purepod support team (there is a landline phone provided outside which was helpful, although you get chewed up by sandflies) and they told us not to worry because New Zealand is very safe. While that is true, and we knew the risk of actual danger is very low, we would have felt much more comfortable with a locking door when staying in a isolated glass pod that doesn’t have good cell phone reception. The fact that our concern was brushed off and we were supposed to just bank our comfort and safety on “it’s a safe country” didn’t feel good at a USD $500/night room. The emergency beacon and the flashlight they provided also did not work (maybe dead batteries?). That was a very frustrating experience. I will also warn people that the trail walk to the property is fairly long (~10 minutes) and overgrown. If you are doing a kiwi spotting tour at night and won’t get back to the pod until after dark, just be prepared for the creepy factor.

Location and concept amazing

Simply not clean enough. So many issues. Really sad coz it could be exceptional. Stains on sheets and pillows. Just not up to scratch for the price

It’s such a unique and calm place. It was very clean and modern.

Was very expensive hence the value was just ok

5 star facilities in a remote, peaceful environment. Warm and luxurious

Location is unbeatable with a serene view.

Access is difficult and rugged
