Waltham Abbey Private Property

Nothing, it started badly when the owner rung me to say that I wouldn’t get the keys unless I deposited £200 into her account immediately. Which obviously I didn’t do because I have no idea who this person is. Secondly we went round to look at the property and it looked really shabby. After I’d read some reviews I realised that it wasn’t going to be a very pleasant experience. In all honesty, booking.com really need to research some of the properties before allowing them to advertise on their platform. This place isn’t fit for purpose, and worse still the owner is a rude woman who doesn’t care about her guests one bit. I’m £112 out of pocket for not staying at this place and because I basically refused to part with another £200. NEVER EVER STAY HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE!

This place is not fit for purpose on any level, anyone booking this I urge you to read the lowest rating reviews before you part with any money. I’ve contacted booking.com to complain about this property and I’m awaiting a reply from them. It also advertises a spa, an on-site restaurant and various other amenities which obviously aren’t in the middle of a housing estate and which I certainly wouldn’t use. The best of all is that at the beginning of the advert it says quite clearly that you should never give out your bank/card details to anyone and yet this person thinks it’s ok to ask for a sum of money which she very nicely says she’ll pay back within 7 working days. I’ve booked loads of properties to stay in on here and I’ve never been asked for a ‘deposit’ which they can clearly keep if they think you’ve done any ‘damage’ to their dwelling. So it’s a definite no from me. If I could give this place a minus mark I would.

I didnt like anything. Not as advertised. Ridiculous high price. Mis advertised . Dirty. Unsanitised. Smashed boarded up windows. 2nd hand dish sponge. No hot water initially. No instructions. Door locks smashed off. Dirty bed linen. I am continuing on from my dislikes below as i maxed out the characters. This place was awful. Me and my 14 yr old son were scared. They had building works going on in the building so was woken up ever single morning with the generator going as they were externally painting. No privacy as were working outside our lounge window, woken up also to loud music and rows. I had messaged the host for a 1pm check out which she was fine with then on the last morning at 8.38am i was woken with door knocking which i ignored and someone trying repeatedly to get their key in front door to open it and repeatedly knocking. I was not clothed and my son and i asleep. We were scared. In the end i got up and shouted through the front door GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALONE ITS 8.38AM. A mans voice the otherside of the door mumbled something and left. I was too scared to go back to sleep and had a 4 hour drive with my eyes hanging out with tiredness. I am disgusted with booking.com selling me this property advertised as a 2 bed house at 112 pounds per night. I want a full refund. These are not properties suitable for middle class families. I wouldnt stay here if they paid me 200 pound a night!!! What is sad is the marriot hotel was the same price per night just round the corner but i thought a 2 bed house may b nicer with more room. I was very wrong. Very, very poor show. PLEASE REFUND ME IN FULL!!! This felt like the host just moved out anytime they got a booking?

Awful location. Ninefields estate known as the worst estate which i had no idea. Caos to meet owner for keys. Very run down 2 bed house 1st offered at 11 eagle close, waltham abbey. From the outside looked like a drug den squat. Smashed windows around the house boarded up. Had to hang around for host to turn up with keys. The front garden had 3 chairs all on their sides looking like dodgy people sat here smoking weed. Then the host turned up with the wrong keys and couldnt get in. She then said 'oh there is 2 of u'??? Which was clearly on my booking hence booking this 2 bed house at 112 pounds per night. She then announced that the 2nd bed was under the stairs which was in the front room directly as u walk in front door so it only was a 1 bedroom house with a dodgy gold peeling bed upstairs. She then said that her other place round the corner may therefore suit us better and had 2 bedrooms and was a flat. i told her this 1 bed squalor of a house was horrible and was her other place around the corner better? She said it was so then spent another 10 minutes trying to find the next address she gave me also in the dodgy nine fields estate. This was a run down 2 bed flat. The bedding furry overblanket looked, smelt & felt like it had never been in a washing machine, the place was freezing cold, i had no hot water for a shower that night, no instructions on how to work anything, dirty all round, rusty old wardrobe door runners, peeling bed and bedside tables, freezing cold at night as no warm bedding just a sheet and this filthy furry throw, bathroom not clean, kitchen sponge was so old the scourer on the back was worn off with bits left hanging off it, the freezer had 2nd hand half a pizza, doggy half eaten ice pops and other dodgy second hand food, not enough kitchen utensils to cook with, not even a potatoe peeler. All the locks were smashed off the front door so felt very unsafe there.

The host, Paula, was super welcoming and helpful. The property was quiet.

I didn't feel particularly safe. Firstly a deposit of £200 was requested outside of the booking.com platform which I had never experienced before - I would have cancelled the booking but it was non-refundable. Then when I arrived at the address given in the listing I was asked to go to a different address, which made me feel very uncomfortable. The new property was all on the ground floor, which as someone staying alone, felt unsafe (the original booking had an upstairs). Lastly the bed only had a throw on it so I was quite cold and had to lay a towel on top of the throw for warmth. A week later I had still not received my deposit and had to chase (it has now been returned).

Absolutely nothing to like about this property

Everything. The host was so rude. Bathroom tap was almost hanging off. Electric shower was taped to the ceiling and didn't work properly. When this was pointed out to the host, she brought a bucket over and told 2 of us to bathe in that. Sheets hadn't been changed from previous occupant. Mass of hair on the bedroom floor. 2nd bedroom was locked so couldn't even use it. No toilet rolls provided so had to ask for some. Smashed window in the front door. Asked for a refund and she did nothing but argue with me, Not helpful at all. Horrible host to deal with and would never recommend staying here
