"nice view, but no response from accom after trying to message"

3.0

the view from the cabin was lovely and the staff tried to resolve some issues

- The doors were all unlocked when we arrived, which was slightly concerning and made us feel uneasy, as we didnโ€™t know if we were entering the right cabin or if anyone else would be in there. We later worked out how to use the locks on the door handles. - The bins hadnโ€™t been emptied from the previous guests - The cabin was very cold and there werenโ€™t any logs when we first arrived. It would be great to have these ready, or advertise that guests should bring their own, as it was FREEZING cold in the living room without the fire on. - The fridge had a very strong eggy smell, which did put us off from wanting to use it the following days - It may be best to advertise that the kitchen is basically in a shed attached to the cabin, rather than really being โ€˜insideโ€™. - The oven tripped multiple times when we were using it, meaning we gave up trying to use it the following night. - The fire door leading from the outside hall to the living area doesnโ€™t close by itself, it gets stuck and you have to pull or push it closed the rest of the way, which seems unsafe if itโ€™s meant to be a fire door - There was water leaking from the extractor fan onto the floor in the far bathroom - The water pressure is also very low in the showers and the water only seemed to run boiling hot or freezing cold, they were quite hard to use when washing our long hair - The door handle on the inside of the first bathroom was hanging on by a thread, the screws were very loose - There were leaves in the hottub when we arrived and it had a slimy residue all over the floor and walls on the inside. This did make it a little hard to get in and out, as a few of us slipped. - The second night we went to use the hottub, it had a very foul smell (almost like cabbage or brussel sprouts) and weโ€™re unsure if any chlorine/cleaning products were in the water - One of the photos online shows the hottub as more of a wooden jacuzzi style, we wouldโ€™ve appreciated knowing it was a lazy spa before paying extra

"Great stay for a family holiday will defo stay again."

Have a great stay the facilities had everything we need for our stay. We all thought that the cottage was lovely but needs upgraded a bit. Somewhere to hang clothes would be good. We had lots of wasps in the house which was a worry as we had a new baby with us. Staff very really helpful and friendly. Loved location and view.

Wasps in the house.

"Dirty and poorly maintained accommodation"

3.0

Good location

Unclean - beds hadnโ€™t been changed, dusty throughout, cobwebs and lots of dead wasps on windows, shelves and sofas. Kitchen is under stocked - not enough cutlery/bowls/utensils for basic cooking and serving for the number it sleeps. Bathroom door lock broken and no working extractor fan in either bathroom. TV equipment is very poor quality.

"Book somewhere else."

3.0

The views are lovely and the remote location offered a wonderful opportunity for stargazing. The setting is undeniably beautiful and the house offered plenty of space for 7 guests.

The overall cleanliness and upkeep were well below expectations. It was evident that the property had not been properly cleaned before our arrival: we found clumps of long hair in one bedroom and a pair of socks left in another. The kitchen was poorly equipped, lacking basic cleaning supplies such as washing-up liquid, a sponge, or surface spray. Despite the property being advertised to accommodate more guests than we had, there wasnโ€™t enough crockery or glassware for everyone. We also had to deal with a wasp problem โ€” surprising for October โ€” and later discovered a waspsโ€™ nest on the side of the house, explaining the numerous wasps that came indoors during our stay. The most concerning issue, however, involved two members of staff. One evening, while we were sitting quietly by the fire pit before 11pm, two male staff members approached us in the dark without announcing themselves. They silently stood behind two of our group until one of us noticed and understandably screamed out of fright. Given the secluded location and the fact it was pitch black, this approach felt extremely inappropriate. The situation was made worse by their reaction โ€” rather than apologising, they laughed it off. The following day, one of them made a mocking remark under his breath as we walked past. This behaviour made us feel uncomfortable and unsafe for the remainder of our stay. Having stayed in many similar lodges across Scotland, this is sadly the first one I would advise others to avoid. The poor cleanliness, lack of amenities, and unprofessional conduct from staff overshadowed what could have been a lovely weekend. With better management and training, Boreland has potential, but based on our experience, it fell far short of expectations.

"Beautiful view, so-so accommodation"

6.0

The great room with a fabulous floor to ceiling window view of Loch Tay and a small cozy wood stove was the best part. Two bathrooms. There is adequate cooking utensils to prepare a meal. Close to the Crannog Center.

The location is somewhat challenging to find. There is no number address, just a name. Google Maps was not very accurate, so we had to search a bit. On arrival, we were uncertain we were in the correct cabin, and the doors were unlocked, so the key code wasnโ€™t confirmation. No one in receptionโ€”eventually figured it out. This place needs maintenance! There are loose door handles, missing light bulbs, peeling floor laminate. The bedrooms are as utilitarian as they appear in the pictures. The showers have inadequate water pressure and the water heater delivers scorching or cold water after a single decent shower. The kitchen is in a shed behind the cabin, not in the building, and is not as clean as I would like (top of fridge covered in dust and bugs, weeds growing along the edges). The stove had only one burner that would remain lit for more than a minute. Fire door between entry and great room wonโ€™t close without a push and has no handle on the outside to pull it shut. They offered us a inflatable hot tubโ€”for 100 something poundsโ€”not taken up. This was the only communication with the host besides key code. Finally, I thought we would be closer to the town of Aberfeldy, but itโ€™s 20-25 minutes out. Services here are very limited, so shop ahead.
