Lake District cottage in one acre gardens off M6

The property was easy to find. There is a nice, large garden which was great for letting the dog out; however, it is not fully secure or gated all around, so we had to keep the dog on a long lead. We also really liked the bathrooms, which were modern and well presented. In particular, the jacuzzi bathtub was a lovely feature. We also liked that there were two large TVs in the property.

We arrived to find that the cottage wasn’t ready. The owner apologised and explained that the cleaner had gone off sick at the last minute. We had to wait in the car for around 30 minutes while the owner finished preparing the cottage, which was very inconvenient after travelling. As the owner lives next to the cottage, this could have been handled better with a quick message in advance. If we had been informed while we were still on the way, we could have planned to stop somewhere for food instead of waiting outside. After entering, we noticed that the areas under the beds were not clean, with a lot of dust, some rubbish, and even dirty socks left behind. It looked like it wasn’t cleaned for a longer period. The kitchen utensils were quite basic. The kitchen could also do with some TLC, as parts of the furniture appeared old and were starting to fall apart.

The saddest part of our stay was the lack of cleanliness. Skirting boards were covered in dust, sofas, and curtains had human/ pet hair. Behind the TV there was so much dust. My neices bed had stain on the sheets. The kitchen ceilings had cobwebs. Bathrooms and bedrooms felt the cleanest and were actually quite nice. Deco was nice and a TV in each room, however massive let down on hygiene sadly. When I saw the dust collected by the sockets in the corner and artificial plant covered it put us off. Even under the sofa some sticky stain which meant sofas hadnt been hoovered properly underneath. I actually hoovered again when we got in but wasnt prepared to do it to a level we would have preferred. This could really be a wonderful place to stay but needs upkeep. The patio area has moss build up and overgrown plant pots with weeds etc. We were genuinely so dissapointed and didnt feel like spending time in the living/kitchen area. We left it clean but thats all we spoke about sadly. Needs a deep clean for sure. Sadly wouldnt return as cleanliness is the most important thing for me and we just felt dirty.

The location was perfect for us, easy to get to and the motorway noises weren't an issue. Even with the window open it didn't disturb us at all! The surrounding gardens were also lovely. The water pressure in the showers was amazing, nothing like a good hot powerful shower!

Unfortunately, there was alot that didn't meet our expectations. Had it of only been 1 thing we would of course brought it to the hosts attention but sadly there were lots of things that really didn't hit the mark. The cleanliness overall was quite bad. Thick dust on all skirting and picture frames, alongside the mould. Most items in the kitchens were grubby and dirty; I had to spend a while cleaning everything so I could make dinner. Which was also difficult as the kitchen inventory was sparse at best (only 1 sharp knife, no measuring jug, only 3 cereal bowls, only 2 baking trays...I could go on) food from the previous guests left in the cupboard, and the bottom of the fridge was filled with water. The mattress have seen better days, as have the sofas. Both were not comfortable to the point we all had bad backs over our weekend. The bathrooms were overall okay, however could really use some maintenance. Loo brush provided, but not actually attached to the handle...Drawers in the bathroom are broken. No where to dry towels properly. The heating was on 24/7, which may seem like a wonderful thing but trying to sleep in 25°c bedroom is not for us. We could not get it to turn down or off! Overall we had a lovely weekend visiting family, but unfortunately would not return, paying close to £400 for 2 nights isn't acceptable in it's current state. With a good clean, maintenance issues sorted and a restock of the kitchen this could be a lovely little cottage.

What a fabulous cottage! This cosy property had everything we needed for the perfect getaway. We would highly recommend.

Great space, homey feeling, good walks

Although I passed on the mopping there was still a lot of dust and hair behind doors, corners and flooring, one of the duvet covers underneath was dirty

Overall the property was very spacious and hosts were very accommodating and polite.

We felt that the property could have been a lot cleaner. There were cobwebs in the kitchen, hairs on the bed and skirting boards/floors could have done with a good clean. We had 14th month old with but didnt feel comfortable him crawling around on the floor. I also messaged to see if there was a hairdryer available, however, nobody got back to me. We wished there were more close-by resturants/takeaways. However, this was our fault for not checking the area before we booked.

Nice and cosy! Friendly owners, good facilities and nice pub 5 mins walk away.

Though there is a heater, however a wall heater may be better.

Comfortable beds. Quiet, despite its easy access from the M6. Well equipped for a longer stay. Bathrooms are modern. The en-suite shower is fantastic!
