Casa rural Aranburu

There are many great reviews from years gone by, which seem to still hold true. Ultimately, we had fun here and didn’t want to leave. We spent 4 lovely days at Casa Rural. It is an old, reconfigured farm house. There are 7 rooms; ours was a nice size and comfortable. The bathroom was also good sized. There is a dining area where we had our breakfasts—and for 3 out of the 4 nights, our dinner, and 2 out of the 4 days, our lunch. The food is what you would expect to eat at your Basque neighbors home. We really enjoyed that; the menu changed daily, and the prices are reasonable, including the price of beer and wine. The Casa is situated several kilometers up a small hill, and there is an adjacent small village which has a church (seemingly inactive to my eye) and a social society where people were playing games and eating/drinking. The local villagers are not unfriendly, but not particularly welcoming either. We enjoyed walking around the village and adjacent paths. Although a little remote, it was still easy to reach many places-during our stay we spent a day in Bilbao, and San Sebastián-but also saw the nearby caves, Sanctuary of Loyola and spent time at the beach. One night we had dinner at a great restaurant nearby (forgot the name, but considered #1 in Zestoa-look it up, super yummy). We also had lunch at a Cidreria that was recommended by our host at The Casa. In short, we had a delightful time and would be very pleased to return.

A small thing, in an otherwise wonderful experience-would be nice if the windows were screened as there some insects that flew in during the night. Clearly, first world problems!

Location was good and the owner was very friendly. We had a lovely reception from the locals in the village.

The location, The place, The people, The fresh air, The forest, The river. Everything was beautiful. How much history was around the place.

We were driving durring the night and We got loss because the post code of the property was different in bookings at the original from the owner.
