Casa do Fontão

This is a very beautiful hotel with lovely decor and fantastic facilities. The staff were lovely and the bed was incredibly comfortable! The hotel was excellent value for money.. we’ve stayed in similar places elsewhere and paid 3 times as much for the same level of comfort! The hotel is a 1 mile out of town up a BIG hill but after three walks, it got easier to walk up it!

We really liked the hotel but… our bathroom in room 2 was a little snug which wouldn’t have been an issue if that had been made clear when booking.

Great staff. Beautifully furnished small hotel, spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and covers. Lovely breakfast. Quiet location. We intended staying just one night, then stayed two, then three, so speaks for itself.

Bit tricky to find. No other meals available other than breakfast, means travelling outside. Tea / coffee / self prep in room would have been good.

This was our second time staying at Casa do Fontao. They have made some updates to the property, adding a pool on the hill, and some new bedding and wallpaper. It still has that old villa charm, and is so well-decorated and clean. The two ladies who work there were so sweet and accommodating. Breakfast was great and they make eggs to your order. The terrace out back is a calm place to relax after a day in Amarante.

As it is not staffed 24 hours a day, we returned from dinner to a dark house. Some lights on timers in the common areas would be nice. But it’s no problem with the cell phone flashlight.
