"Romantic stay in Amarante"

Casa do Fontao exceeded our expectations in every way. The guesthouse is not manned by staff 24 hours a day, but their self check-in process worked well. We stayed in room 4, a junior suite. The room was modern, large, and had a large comfortable king sized bed. The bathroom was also very large and had a big "garden tub/shower." The entire guesthouse is appointed with beautiful, stately, mahogany style furniture. The morning breakfast was delicious and even included made to order scrambled eggs. The location is about a mile from the center of the old town, and sits at a fairly high evelation accessed by a fairly steep cobble stone street. It would be a tough trek if you were trying to walk it, but it is not an issue traveling by car. Casa do Fontao is managed as a family run business. The property feels like a 5 star experience at a 1 star expense. If it is available during your time in Amarante, book it. You won't be disappointed!

Lovely rooms and spaces to enjoy (living room, terrace). Great breakfast and very friendly owners. This is a family run lodging and that's exactly what it feels like staying at Casa do Fontão. Comfortable and welcoming.

No on-site staff at night but they are available over the phone.
