Cascina Roella

Beautiful apartment with amazing views from the terrace and apartment. Rita is an amazing host and every little detail considered so you feel very much at home. Not often you stay somewhere that has such a homely feel.

A wonderful location.

The hot water went out 3 times during a four night stay.

Cascina Roella is made up of two small, one-bed properties, accessed between the hosts’ two houses and across the terrace. One apartment is on the ground floor, the other has the bedroom and bathroom up a metal flight of stairs. These are not the tight spiral stairs shown in the photo. Both houses are clean and comfortable. Rita is delightful and her family are friendly. Despite the description, neither house has an oven, and they are poorly equipped for cooking. The ground floor property has a bigger kitchen, with 5 gas rings and 1 electric. The other house has just 2 ceramic rings. There isn’t a barbecue. Each house has a small microwave, and both have aircon in the bedroom. There is a long balcony for the ground floor house, and a tiny one off the bedroom in the other house, both with spectacular views.

The pool sits between the family’s houses. The terrace is vast with an array of chairs, tables and loungers. It is awkward to swim when the family are eating meals outside. We were told the pool and terrace were for our exclusive use, as well as for those that live there - definitely not the case. Three young men arrived without notice, and spent 3 hours filming around the pool, with cameras and drones, before others (including Rita’s son) arrived. It made us feel very uncomfortable and, despite Rita saying that this would not happen again, there were 10 teenagers in and around the pool the following day. We rented both houses together. However, it might feel one’s fellow renters were in very close proximity if one didn’t know them. There are 3 dogs - very yappy, but friendly, although not ideal if one has allergies or fears! It’s not suitable for young children, there is no play area (although the description states there is one) and the small TVs are in the bedroom. Ultimately the location is perfect, the views are stunning, but these are not rentals for those who wish to cook or who want to have more exclusive use of a pool.

Rita is the perfect hostess - very attentive and helpful. The dogs are also very lovely The view from the pool and terrace is stunning, with good seating options. Located very close to the centre of Barolo area - everything is walkable from the apartment (as long as you can do steep hills!)
