Casa rural Abatetxe

The location is stunning with amazing views. You take a single-track road to get there so it is well off the beaten track, but well worth it. The property is spot on with large rooms and en-suite bathrooms. It is self-sustainable with solar panels for power. I didn't use the gym, but it looked fit for purpose. You can't really walk to villages but it's a good location to drive to various surrounding cities (45mins to Bilbao). It is also a great place to wake up to if you've spent the day in a city, a nice change to city centre hotels. Ideal for a combined city/country break especially if you like walking.

Lovely building, excellent breakfast and dinner. Great facilities. Incredible attention to detail. Comfortable beds. Lovely outside spaces. Very quiet. Loads of animals! On our arrival we opted for a glass of wine before a lovely vegan and gluten free dinner. A nice breakfast the following morning before departing for Bilbao. Matteo couldn’t have been more helpful. Him being Italian was an added bonus for me to be able to practice my Italian. He actually speaks very good Spanish and English too. Wonderful

Amazing stay, from the location on the mountain overlooking the valley, the big space inside, floorheating, incredible comfortable bed and pillows, very elegant, cozy interieur to the very friendly host, everything is perfect here. This is one of the appartments where we were sad that we booked for one night, we should have stayed at least a week.

Our stay at Casa Rural Abatetxe was a superb experience in every conceivable way... The owner, Matteo, was incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is arranged within a stone building that dates back several hundred years but which has been beautifully renovated to an exceptionally high standard by Matteo himself. There are a variety of animals on site including a couple of delightful donkeys, a cat and the two most quiet and well-behaved dogs we've ever seen! The environment is amazingly tranquil, the accommodation is off-grid yet fully-functional and we're grateful to Matteo for having facilitated this experience for us. We intend visiting again as soon as our schedules permit.

Wonderful familiar hotel in a traditional and very nicely restored farm house in the mountains with all the comfort you need and very nice and helpful owners.

Matteo was the perfect host for the perfect stay. There’s so much to love about the surroundings - the dogs, cats, rabbits, donkeys, the mountains and eating breakfast/dinner outside. It’s definitely the best stay you can get in like 50km radius - don’t even hesitate!

Beautifully restored property in a very scenic and tranquil situation. Very comfortable beds, big airy rooms decorated with great taste. Delicious home made breakfast served on the terrace with magnificent views, serenaded by copious birdsong. Very attentive host and an endless source of information. The casa rural is almost entirely auto-suficient energy-wise, it is good to see you can be respectful of the environment and enjoy a very comfortable and exquisite stay. We travelled with our large dog and he was welcomed. There are fantastic walks to go on with your pet from the casa, as well as the garden grounds of the property. The property has a fabulous and large games room and guests have access to a well provided kitchen for its guests. Parking is available. It is meant for longer stays than ours, as we only stayed for one night on our way down to the South. Even so, we were very well looked after. I wished we’d stayed longer.
