Quinta de Mourães - Casa do Xisto

Full credit to the owner of the place. Well looked after and maintained. Antonio and his partner the property managers were great at looking after us. Whenever there were any small issues they solved it. The place is beautiful, an amazing huge swimming pool with great views. There are lots of floats available so we didn't use ours for the kids or adults. The place is over 100 years old and has a lot of character and is beautiful. Lots of walking paths. Doesn't have AC but nearly all the rooms have a fan. They definitely should buy a couple more. One bedroom is in an outer building within the main residence estate. Wasn't a problem for us. The photos uploaded here don't do it justice, it's a lot nicer and picturesque.

Getting taxis is difficult, I usually have to wait for 20mins. Taxi's cost around £15 for a car and £25 for a 6 seater. Still a lot cheaper than hiring two cars. Use Uber over bolt, we found taxi drivers are more likely to come on Uber as the drivers get paid more. Cost us more but it is more convenient and reliable. The supermarket is about a 10mins drive. You have to speak/message to the taxi drivers, as they tend to wait at the entrance. The house is up the hill which is about 15-20min walk up hills from the entrance. We never had to walk down, we managed to navigate them up the rural path. Don't let this put you off booking this place. We managed it and it was worth it. We had an amazing time. We had a family of ten with 2 very small children and elderly grandparents.

Magnificent and very charming old house well designed for a larger group. Very helpful and hospitable staff.

The house was a beautiful traditional Portuguese farmhouse. Very cool inside. Fabulous pools with pool house. Magnificent gardens with swans and ducks...magical. Walks up into the countryside through the grounds belonging to the property. Host very friendly and welcoming.

Use charcoal for the BBQ not wood and this will prevent the 5th bedroom becoming smokey.
