The host and her family provided a delicious breakfast at our request. They also had a very cute pet cat and the other guests were all very kind and helpful.

The host was not home the evening we arrived but was very accommodating when we did run into her the next morning. We were able to communicate well with google translate.

We were on a family trip trying to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Ritz Garden Niji was exactly fit for that purpose. It is snuggly located in the middle of patchwork of fields of Biei, so quiet with bright stars in the night. The host is a very welcoming grandma who speaks fluent Korean, so that was really good for us talking for hours about our lives. It felt like going to a long-lost family home in the country side, and it really is in a way!

There is really nothing to complain about this place. The host and the staff are very considerate of guests and environmentally conscious—as evidenced by the meticulously kept organic vegetable garden. Just one thing, perhaps, it would have been nice to have an electric fan readily available in the room. We were here right in the midst of the summer heat wave of about 34°C. The air-conditioner in the room worked fine, but a fan could have made our stay a bit more comfortable.

Apart from being close to Shikisai-no-oka, nothing to like about this property.

This review is based on our stay in a twin room in the main house. The rooms in the main house should not be advertised as a pension for paying guests for the following reasons: 1. Contrary to Booking.com's description of facilities and reviews, the property is in an unsatisfactory condition for paying guests - house is dated and messy. More like someone's old home than a pension to host paying guests. 2. This property is not staffed and relies on young foreign volunteers (who were friendly and helpful) to do some chores in return of free food and lodging. Perhaps that's why our experience was like putting up in someone's spare bedroom with owner's own things filling the wardrobes, and with the shared washroom having laundry and the owner's own items. 3. There is no meal option or operating restaurant. Not even a tea bag or hot beverage was offered, which is unheard of in Japan. Everything is Bring Your Own. Puzzling how there are Booking.com reviews on nice food. Perhaps, the reviews were submitted by volunteers who are offered free food and not by paying guests? 4. Shared kitchen and equipment were old and not clean. Kitchen counter had a dead cockroach throughout duration of our stay. Guests need to rummage through the kitchen for cups, plates and utensils and wash up everything you use, 6. There was a general lack of hospitality towards paying guests. As an example, owner barged into our room without knocking to look for something. We wouldn't stay here even if offered for free as we did not travel to Biei for a volunteer-stay experience.

Clean and comfortable room. The owner is nice but difficult to communicate as she cannot speak in English.

The owner charge me extra for 2 children, I need to pay extra $20,000 Yen at the hotel, as well as $5,000 Yen cleaning fee of using the BBQ stove. The whole discussion experience with the owner and the staff of Booking.com was very poor and unsatisfactory, which I have spent more than an hour of discussion but I forced to pay the money at last. It ruined my mood of my travel. Overall, the charging scheme of this hotel is not transparent (includes room charge and BBQ usage fee) and not reasonable. I don’t recommend this hotel unless they amend the charging scheme and state clearly the terms and conditions of staying and using their facility.

The price is way too much to a homestay with shared bath room for the whole floor of guest room. No hairdryer to be found despite I have asked one of the staff I can't find..she just ask me to find again int hat place that I have searched.
