Tolcarne Beach Colonial Restaurant and Rooms

It was very quiet at night, the view from the room was spectacular, uninterrupted view of the sea. Not too far into centre of Newquay, excellent staff, very friendly, accommodating, spotless room, lovely bath & shower, good quality towels etc etc. Newquay is the perfect place to use as a base to drive to all the other wonderful places like Padstow, St Ives, the Eden Project, all within 1/2 to 3/4 hours driving. & the restaurants round here are incredible, I recommend the Pig at Harylon Bay & Rick Steins seafood restaurant in Newquay near the Newquay GC.

When we arrived at Newquay the signposting to the hotel is non existent & had to phone the hotel to find out how to get to it. They need additional signage on the main road to point out the entrance to the hotel, if your your not a confident driver beware of the narrow windey road down to the hotel, I would suggest you park in their carpark which is only 1/2 way down the lane as it’s very very tight!!!!!!! We stayed in the room called “Halcyon” & although it was lovely & and incredible sea view, on a couple of mornings you could smell the cooking of the kitchens & it could be perceived as a bit off putting first thing in the morning.

The restaurant is very good. We ate dinner and breakfast in our one-night stay and were very happy with both meals. The room was comfortable with decidedly old-fashioned design and decor. Lots of style and clearly in good taste. The view from the room was superb. The staff was extremely helpful both with the luggage on the stairs and getting out back to the main road.

The road down to hotel is a bit difficult and it is best to speak with the staff to ferry luggage and people from the upper parking lot to the hotel. It is quite a hike up the hill to the town and there doesn't appear to be much near the hotel so it is best to take advantage of the very good restaurant during the stay.
