Mulgrave Lodge

Mina was lovely and the location was great. Free parking (if available) is a bonus although it would be a challenge for a large vehicle. The street is pleasant and it's a short walk from the town centre and harbour as well as the town's other attractions. Easy transport into Dublin.

The whole place is - to be kind - shabby and in need of a serious upgrade. The rooms were apparently renovated in 2023. That wasn't evident in mine, which looked like it hadn't been touched in decades, apart (perhaps) from a poor paint job. The shower was based on an immersion heater, which took 30 minutes to deliver hot water. The shower in my friend's room had to run for ten minutes before the water warmed up, then had very poor pressure. The door to my room didn't fit the frame, so every time any other door opened, it rattled as though someone was knocking on it. There's zero soundproofing. Some rooms don't have bathrooms, so every time someone used the shared bathroom you get doors opening and closing and the extractor fan going. You can hear pretty much everything that goes on. I would have given better points for cleanliness, but the valance on the bed clearly hadn't been changed in a long time and was visibly marked and stained. The bed linen was fresh and the bathroom was clean, but the room and everything in it was slightly damp. The mismatched carpets throughout the hotel don't give the impression of clean, even if they are. Breakfast, should you choose it, involves (quote): white bread, cereal, butter, tea or coffee. It costs €5. Bearing in mind this is advertised as a B&B, that's not great. Happily there are loads of great breakfast places in town. Free parking is available but limited, which isn't clear from the online description. It's first come first served and if you're driving a larger vehicle you'll struggle to access it - the corners to and from the access lane are very tight. Make sure you reverse park - if there are other vehicles in the parking area you'll have a hard time getting out. I don't like leaving negative reviews and if somewhere meets the basics I'm happy. But Mulgrave Lodge didn't do that.

The location was great and price reasonable for the location. The booking and entry etc. were all fine.

It is an old building and it shows. It is a bit run down. It is ok but I wouldn't stay there for leisure.

Excellent location.

Tired and dated. Zero water pressure in my room which took 10 mins of spitting water to heat up. Walls so thin you can literally hear your neighbours having sex. Shower felt dirty.
