The Barfung Retreat

We enjoyed our large room with attached large balcony overlooking 180 degrees of snow-capped mountains. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff wanting to please and friendly.

While we really liked being in a rural area with walking distances to monasteries, The Barfung was a little difficult to find. I suggest you put an arrow on the largest sign indicating a right turn. Otherwise, we enjoyed everyting.

The concept with the bungalows and the large window front is very good. Everything was clean and the staff friendly.

The condition of the garden is a bit sad and there is little seating. Even though the staff were friendly, they sometimes seemed headless without guidance. You never knew who exactly was working there (uniform or name tags would be helpful). Card payment is not possible for international guests.

If you are looking for solitude, then this is for you. The stay was comfortable away from city hustle bustle. Well maintained, luxurious enough. It takes around 20-30 mins on bike/car from main Ravangla market. Not advised to travel in the dark. Narrow roads through jungle are kinda ok. In monsoon, be careful of the leeches in nearby jungle. Wear jungle boots if going for a walk in the jungle
