Lovely vibe and beautiful old style place. Everything clean. Staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was simple but tasty. Lift was helpful.

Bit noisy due to traffic in the lovely lounge area but it’s part of being in Kolkata.

The staff (especially the breakfast waiter whose name I forgot to write down, for which I apologize, but the man on duty during these dates) all met or exceeded the highest standards of Indian service - which are pretty high: helpful, fiving information as requested, helping with all the minor nuisances i bothered him with (an extra table for my room, how does the tv remote work, pls bring me an ironing board, etc). The breakfasts were superb and powered me through my days in Kolkata. The room was remarkably quiet for a big city, the veranda was excellent, the shower and bathroom were great, and the location turned out to be ideal. I also appreciated the cool and clean stone floors and the high ceilings - the overall feel of the room really helped to avoid those typical traveler feelings of melancholy or befuddlement that often accompany a long-ish stay in an unfamiliar place.

Very little for my requirements: the air conditioner was a a tad clunky and had a touch of that "old air conditioner" smell, but not problematically so; I wouldn't have minded a small dresser for a 9 day stay, but i appreciated the large packing table unit in the front of the bathroom.
