Welgeluk Feather Palace

The hosts, Stan and Bernadette, were outgoing, warm and friendly, made us feel very welcome, and are salt-of-the-earth, wonderful people - by the time we left, we felt like long lost friends. Breakfasts were excellent, and we loved James, the dog. This historical feather palace is situated on a working farm and is a magnificent gem harking back to a bygone era - for the historically-inclined, this majestic, beautiful old building is a feast for the senses, and highly recommended and highly-recommended for anyone with a penchant for old buildings.

We loved our stay. The hosts are very welcoming, it was great to talk to them and we had the very best self-made rusks in South Africa. We truly enjoyed it and highly recommend to stay there. It was the most beautiful and special place we stayed at on our trip and probably the largest bathroom I have ever seen :). Also, the dinner recommendation (at Nostalgie) was fantastic. This is a beautifully restored Edwardian villa with lovely large ensuite bedrooms and an elegant breakfast room with wonderful stain glass windows. The owners were so welcoming, charming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The grounds are pretty with quaint sitting areas under trees and a nice swimming pool.

There was nothing we didn’t like about this property but the location may not suit everyone as it was about a 10minute drive from Oudtshoorn.

We loved everything about our stay, a beautiful building from 1910 with so many original features. Our bedroom was stunning, and we were welcomed into this family home. Excellent breakfasts in a quiet location, I would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

What an amazing stay we had at Welgeluk Feather Palace - we just loved it. As other reviews have said, it’s a grand rural retreat built in 1910 with money from the ostrich farming that has been beautifully modernised to make it a really comfortable and elegant place to stay. A room had everything we could need, including a kettle coffee machine and fridge, it was really large and comfortable and the bed was excellent. Festival with the amazing hospitality from Stan Bernadette Beatrice and James the dog. The property is about 12 minutes drive from town where there are lots of restaurants. Breakfast was delicious. We really enjoyed our day and would highly recommend this hotel.

This was our second visit to this magical place and it was even better than we remembered.. the atmosphere of the feather-boom from a century past is all around and unspoiled. What a enchanting beautiful place.. you also really feel nature all around when strolling among the animals in the fields. We loved everything, but most of all the welcoming and warm presence of the owners Bernadette and Stan

The owners Stan and Bernie were warm and welcoming. The pool was clean and clear and the Breakfast was perfectly cooked. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were huge. The downstairs was open for our use and extrememly well restored and maintained.
