Fantastic B&B, and one of the nicest I've ever stayed in. Lovely and remote setting, looking over the lake. On arrival after a long and challenging journey, Pauline was busy offering sweets to the Rhymers, which I thought a very nice touch. I hadn't realized until then what day it was. Pauline went out of her way to welcome me and her hospitality was second to none. She, even offered me a delicious home-baked Halloween cupcake in a box when I left next morning (a touching first for me). Pauline is obviously very proud of Cavan, it's 365 lakes, and the freshness of its air, and it was so easy to see why when I stayed. Many songbirds were busy at the bird feeder, which brought back a fond memory of my late parents home which is farther north in Ireland. The room was one of the most comfortable and cozy places I have ever stayed in. I definitely appreciated the B&B's focus on sustainability. I believe it's won them an Ulster award. Sadly, I was only there the one night. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be coming back.

The B&B serves a variety of local produce as part of the substantial breakfast. Never before have I been offered so many options. I normally don't do black pudding, usually trying only one bite - but for the first time in my life I ate the entire serving as it was so delicious with big grains in.. There was also a special local soft cheese that sounded interesting. Maybe next time. Perhaps the dining room conservatory could benefit from a blind or curtain, to shield the breakfast guests from the glare of the morning sun.

Really enjoyed our stay at Hawthorn Lodge. Very comfortable, clean, quiet and food was excellent as always.

Pauline was a lovely host. Fantastic comfortable clean room with a great view. Breakfast was amazing. Recommended.

An excellent location to explore the countryside of Co. Cavan and further afield. Cavan Town is only a short distance away by car and offers a wide selection of food & beverage options. I was attending a sports event in Cavan Town and the Hawthorn Lodge was a great base. Also, an excellent start to each day with a brilliant breakfast every morning really helped.

Hostess is a lady and takes pride in her service.
