Carpe Diem

Had a lovely stay in B&B Carpe Diem in the lovely village of Portacomaro. The B&B is situated on a hill with an impressive 360 degree view of the surroundings. The owners are a lovely couple which are very friendly and helpful (the lady of the house even helped us removing some ticks). They only speak Italian so make sure to brush up on your language skills. The rooms are nice and both rooms we rented had a lovely balcony where we could sit and relax after a full day visiting the beautiful Piedmont. The breakfast was served in a charming small breakfast room. We enjoyed the freshly made omelet with cheese, the meat cuts and the cheese. They also served different sweets every day, like the famous hazelnut cake. Would have been nice to have fresh bread in stead of toasted bread though. We had dinner twice at Carpe Diem and loved sitting outside in the evening enjoying the beautiful surroundings and the nice home cooked dinner, made from locally sourced ingredients. The owner offered us some good wines to enjoy with our meal. Be warned though: make sure to be hungry, because you get plenty of food! The B&B also has a very nice, small swimming pool. Ideal if you just want to relax for a day and drink a glass of spumante or prosecco lounging in the chairs at the side of the pool. Price quality this really is an outstanding place. No wonder so many clients return after a first visit.

The room I shared with my boyfriend smelt like second hand smoke and even if we kept the windows open the whole night, the smell simply did not disappear. The owners smoke and our room was right above the living room of the owners, so that must have been the cause of the smell. The bathroom was fine, the shower was a bit small and the water wasn't always warm enough, but we managed to get ourselves cleaned up.

Everything was perfect ! One of my best experience in Italy. The food prepared by Rosalba is exceptional and not expensive !

Rosalba & Franco were very welcoming. They made our stay comfortable and even cooked us a beautiful dinner when we arrived. They prepared omlettes & breakfast meats for us every morning, and otherwise left us to it. The three en-suite bedrooms were tastefully decorated and comfortable to use. Lovely views out to Asti from all the outdoor spaces.

Worth noting that there are no complimentary toiletries in the bathrooms (other than handsoap) so you need to take your own. We were looking forward to using the pool but unfortunately it hadn't been opened for the season just yet (we travelled in late April)

The location is quiet and offers a view over the hills of Langhe / Monferrato. Home-made meals and desserts by our host Rosalba were delicious. The pool and area for kids were ideal for our little family.
