We stayed at the Prince of Wales in Princetown at the start of our south-to-north Dartmoor hike, and it was a great choice. The location is ideal for walkers, right on the edge of the moor and perfect as a base for an adventure. The rooms were simple, clean, and exactly what we expected for the price — a solid overnight stop on a budget. The real highlight, though, was the staff. From the moment we arrived, they were friendly, down-to-earth, and happy to help in any way. They even made us a packed lunch in place of breakfast because we were heading off early, which was such a thoughtful gesture. When we did have breakfast the following morning, it was far better than expected, with clearly good local ingredients and especially tasty sausages.

Honestly, there wasn’t much to complain about. The rooms are fairly basic, but that’s exactly what we were after for a one-night walking stop. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the atmosphere was relaxed. No issues from us.

Wonderful pub serving Dartmoor ale. All the rooms have been refurbished to a high standard, meals were great but most of all the staff were friendly and helpful. It makes such a difference. Our dogs were made very welcome too. Will definitely vist again
