"The Sanctuary lives up to its name - a glorious space!"

9.0

This serene spot is situated on the main street close to restaurants and a range of distinctive architecture commencing around 1858. The pool was a crystal blue escape from the heat and well utilised by all the guests. I had a delicious healthy 'banting' dinner (as close to a salad as I could find) at the Swartburg Hotel accompanied by one of their huge range gins. The Sanctuary breakfast was tasty and served with a smile outside under umbrellas with views of the cypress trees. Not usually a great fan of yoghurt the yoghurt from the local dairy was an exceptional to my fruit and cereal. I was limited on time so didn't make it to the dairy but I did follow the owners advice. I went on an adventure into the lee-side foothills to the local fig farm. I was two weeks too early for the harvest but the farm is in a beautiful location and the restaurant serves a delicious fig tart plus there was a range of gifts and foodstuffs to purchase. The Avoova ostrich shell factory shop is just outside of town and there is an Atelier definitely worth visiting. I would recommend two nights as I could not see everything that I wanted.
