Casa Tamarindo

For $50 per night I expected more but all the accommodations in Antigua are overpriced . The Deluxe Double rooms are in the front , the dorms in the back . In order to get to the dorms you have to pass by the front rooms which means everybody who comes late passed by my room . Flimsy doors and windows made you hear everybody who passed by , even just normal decibel noises . The “terrace” is part of the hallway , no views , although they made an effort with planters etc to create a garden atmosphere . The breakfast : 2 pieces of toast with 1 scrambled egg , 3 pieces of plantains and a tiny bowl of mixed fruit , I was hungry an hour later . Although helpful the owners come across as cold , not the cheerful demeanor of other Guatemalans.

The location

We booked this hotel based on its good reviews. We were put in the front room next to the cafe, which was noisy all day as it’s right next to a seating area. (All the rooms are opposite seating areas or the kitchen) Also at 6:30 AM; the cafe opens and they loudly mop the fake grass and rearrange chairs. We originally didn’t get any towels. And when we asked for some, they were the oldest towels I’ve ever seen full of holes. Also the bedsheets were old and didn’t fit the bed, so any time you moved, you ended up directly on top of the dirty mattress. There was also no room service- which is a bit rough when you can’t flush toilet paper and must put it in the bin. The bin didn’t even have a liner on it. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.

Walls were very thin so you could hear people in the rooms next door.

The smell and humidity in our room was unbearable so we decided to leave after 1 night even though we booked 3. We couldn’t get any refund as we prepaid the whole stay in cash at check-in. The staff was more than rude, would never apologize, and didn’t make any effort to fix the issue. They even told us we wouldn’t find any room in Antigua because “everything was fully booked anyway”, but we did and were very happy to leave Casa Tamarindo even though they refused to give us at least a partial refund of our stay.

The smell probably to the uncontrolled humidity in the room was unbearable. The staff was rude and actively sabotaging our customer experience.

The property is very cozy and has that enchanted nature touch. The owner and her mom make you feel at home. The staff is amazing. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯💯

I enjoy everything.

We were electrocuted by the shower. There were exposed wires leading to the shower head which lead to us getting an electric shock when turning it on or off. We alerted the manager and she didn’t seem to care. She offered us to move to a different room which we declined as we were leaving early the next morning. No apology or refund given for the electric shock. We also booked a shuttle to take us to the airport (6pm for a 9:30pm flight - 1 hour ish drive) at 6:30 the shuttle didn’t show up. We had to book our own taxi and they refused to give us a refund.
