Sweetlake

The location was good for my purpose. The hosts were exceptional, the room was spotless and tastefully furnished and decorated. Breakfast was very nice. Excellent place if you are going to De Boerderij for some superb music.

Lovely comfortable rooms in a house full of interesting things. The owner was very helpful,, letting us in a bit early as we had walked a long way in the rain to get there. Excellent shower, all facilities were great and there were nice touches like extra toiletries and chocolate eggs in the rooms. The owner was also able to drive us to and from our gig which was a real bonus. Very nice breakfast, freshly cooked. All excellent.

Hard to find - because of the photos on-line we were looking for a wooden chalet next to a lake!

* The whole house has 1 bathroom/wc for ALL the rooms to share. It is mentioned on Booking that the bathroom is shared, but not prominently, so I just realized it on the spot. For nearly 100€ per night you will be drying the bathroom for other guests and are not able to go to the loo when you want to. * Check-in from 16.00 means that until then nobody is home, the front door is locked, you can't pass by earlier to leave your bags for example. And it is a 100% residential suburb, so there is nowhere to go to wait close by. * Unhelpful and nosy hosts. Someone flattened my bike tire in their courtyard at night (the valve had been opened to let all air out). Their only reaction: oh, you need a pump? WE don't have any, hope you find a solution, bye. This in Netherlands, in a courtyard full of bikes. On a Sunday morning when it is not so easy for a foreigner to know where to find help in a strange city. (I am very thankful to a random biker who passed me by while I was searching for an open gas station - she invited me to her house, helped me pump the tire and offered me a cup of coffee while doing so. Incredibly good end to this story and I got to know really lovely people thanks to that. But the B&B was just pointless.) * Horrible bed, so soft it felt like half-empty inflatable mattress, so unstable. Only mood lighting in the room, not light-giving lights. My booking did not include breakfast, but this option was not offered either.

Room and bathroom were beautiful, staff was very helpfull.

Room was hot, birds of neighbours kept me awake all night.

+ very close to the bus station towards Leiden + the room and bathroom were very clean + very Dutch, very cosy + tea and coffee in the room, to drink for free

- I have not received a key to the main door, but only to the room, so each time I intended to go in I had to ring the bell (which is not really feasible if I plan to stay late outside) - the room had some parts which were pending repairing and some scribbling on the wall (around the window) - although there were a lot of light bulbs and all worked, the light in the room was pretty dim - not too many places to hang your clothes - slow internet connection, which is not good if you intend to have a teleconference (I had to use my data plan) - 15 minutes walk to the old city center and 30 minutes walk from train station but shops nearby
