CALocation was great if you want a quiet time. Town of Sao Joao is a traditional Portuguese village. There is a grocery store and small cafe at bottom of hill about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive away. There are a number of restaurant options available in nearby towns 10 to 20 minutes drive away. View from room was amazing overlooking village and ocean. Premises was clean with separate room to entertain or watch TV. Large bathroom with Jetted Tub was in our unit. Nice patio's outside but weather was too poor for us to enjoy them.
Host does not reside at location. She did have a pleasant staff person (Marianna) come to location each morning to serve breakfast. Internet was a little bit spotty. If you go during winter like we did heater in bedroom did not get hot enough.

DEGreat view and location. Super nice hosts. Individual and delicious breakfast, including a birthday surprise. Great location for exploring the island, but you need a car.
The bathroom is a little dated, but still functional. The thermal insulation could be better.
