Fox & Bear Lodge

Nicely refurbished property! Lots of charm. 3rd time staying.

Our hosts, Dearrick and Brant, were very hospitable and accommodating. The area was beautiful and we were only a half a mile from the entrance to the Appalachian trail--which of course we had to sample. The lodge itself was very clean and had an old world charm to--especially since it was originally built in 1831

Since all of us have financial concerns, we felt the price of our stay could have been a bit lower. Everything else including dining options were within a several-miles radius.

We had a wonderful stay! The lodge is extremely cute and cozy and in a great location. Breakfast was really delicious too!

It looks nice and it's clean. The owner was friendly. The surrounding area is an attractive country-like atmosphere.

All the other rooms were empty but, probably because we didn't book directly with the property owners, we were given the worse room. Even though there was a nice bedroom downstairs, we were given one on the second floor which you reach through a narrow and steep staircase. The bathroom, right next to the bed, includes only the toilet and a shower. The sink was located in the bedroom itself, by the door. There was no cold water in the sink. The shower pressure was weak but at least you didn't get burned if you were quick. The bed was okay once you were able to get up there; it is very high and a wooden step is required to climb it. The pillow cases were mismatched and some were too short for the pillow. The lock in the front screen door gets stuck and you have to juggle it for a while until it opens. The first night we were trapped in the house for that reason but there was no one else around to assist. We were thinking that we would have to get out through a window to go for dinner. The breakfast was a sandwich, fruit and yogurt the first day; the second day was waffles with fruit, yogurt and cereal. The owners are selling the property and appear to have lost interest on building up the business, although, of course, you don't know that until you are already there. Overall, an experience that could've been relaxing and satisfying became disappointing. I'm particularly upset because I picked the place to celebrate my wife's birthday and I felt embarrassed. Again, what lingers most on my mind is the fact that the owner that welcomed us didn't have enough flexibility or awareness to suggest that we stay downstairs, where the bedroom has a full bathroom ensuite and we wouldn't have to climb those stairs. After all, they were not expecting any other guests the rest of the week. I would've paid extra if that had been the case.

The mattress was far too soft, quite uncomfortable to sleep on.

The breakfast was great. The hosts were available and friendly. Everything you could want or need was provided. They have a small cafe there as well. The area has good restaurants, hiking and shopping close by

There was nothing I didn't like

The location makes it very peaceful, but the some of the best things about this BnB was the fact, my mom and I could wake up in the morning and grab a blanket and sit on the porch with coffee or tea, it was beautiful and peaceful, with a very comfortable and cozy room. The bed was amazing, it was very clean, and the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion really make a difference. The staff was super friendly, they had a table with free drinks and a snack, the breakfast was very good. Overall, a fabulous BnB!
