Elmwood 1820 Bed & Breakfast Inn

Service was wonderful!!! Miss Lemon the cat was an added plus. It was nice to stay I. A house that was build in 1820.

How often do you get to enjoy a tremendous beautiful house like this? Everything was so large, yet decorated in a way that almost felt intimate. The porches were relaxing. The dining room was elegant. The bedrooms were so comfortable and the beds were great. Even the temperature was good.

Nothing I disliked about the property

My problem is that I used booking.com and got a discounted rate for two nights at the Elmwood 1820 B&B. It was NOT disclosed at the time of booking that NO MEAL (BREAKFAST) was included at the discounted rate. The confirmation from booking.com DID say “No meal included” but also said the reservation was NON-REFUNDABLE! I did not read the confirmation, but was rudely surprised by reading the “contactless check-in” letter taped to the front door of the inn. The breakfast time and details were crossed out on the letter. We texted the innkeeper, Richard Smoot, to complain. I don’t normally read all confirmation details … but I guess I will from here on. I said for $251 per night, breakfast SHOULD be included, even though I should have read the confirmation details from booking.com. I said I would comment in my review of the inn… which Mr. Smoot took as a threat and offered to refund the entire amount. He appeared with his partner at our room as my wife and I were unpacking and told us to leave. The exchange, needless to say, was heated. We have NEVER been thrown out of an inn, hotel or anywhere! We are senior citizens and were in town to celebrate my 73rd birthday. We packed our things and drove the 110 miles back to our home outside Raleigh. I complained to booking.com. Booking.com appears to not be concerned about this incident, as the only action they wanted taken was for me to review the B&B!! BUYER BEWARE, B&B’s use third parties to list properties, details, and conditions in web booking sites like booking.com. The arrangements are with the THIRD PARTY, and NOT with booking.com! ALWAYS CHECK WITH THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT FIRST BEFORE BOOKING. YOU CANNOT TRUST BOOKING.COM or other web booking sites.

Love the house. Think veranda and porch need painting. Hope fountains are on next time.
