The Buena Vista Kandy

The breakfast was excellent.

The location wasn't close to the centre of Kandy as described. More details should be mentioned about the location and the steepness of the roads leading to and from the guesthouse as I was looking for a location that was easily accessible on foot.

Many thanks for the excellent breakfasts, they changed each day but were always delicious. The host will also ask when you want breakfast and organise accordingly, and wait up for your return. The views during breakfast and night time are stunning. There's a small library and lots of chairs on the terrace to enjoy the area. We did not have any issues with the bathroom as mentioned in other reviews, but we didn't see any other rooms aside from ours -- we stayed in the one backing the kitchen.

The one issue is that around 5-6 am you can clearly hear chants/prayers from the neighbourhood, and sometimes the dogs join in. On Sunday morning especially it went on for a while. But can't really be helped and gets you up early.

The location of the property is fantastic. Place was clean.

The amenities are very basic in nature. Though room was clean, they can do better. Doors make creaking noises and bathroom shower room partition was broken. Wi-Fi was very weak and our own network worked better and faster. Very limited choices for breakfast. Last but not the least, we didn't realise that they don't take payment by cards, nor did anyone inform us through caretaker and last minute it became a surprise so if you book the property please ensure that you carry LKR or USD for payment.

We love this property. I was here 7 years ago and knew that it was a place I wanted to return to next time I visited Kandy. The Geoffrey Bawa design is tasteful and comfortable and the views are sensational but it is the hospitality that stands out for me. Puvannesh and his father are so welcoming and helpful and make you truly feel at home. The food stands up against any good restaurant. My friend said it was the best curry he has ever had! I would come back for a bowl of Puvannesh and his father’s eggplant curry alone! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience which made us feel so special. See you next time!

The view from Buena Vista is truely spectacular and the hotel building is architecturally beautiful. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and the breakfast was great.

I liked the quiet neighbourhood. The architecture of the hotel was lovely. The place itself had a nice atmosphere.

One of the staff was too persistent to know about my plans and kept asking every time he saw me. He and his tuktuk friend somehow recommended me to go to certain places in which I had no interest and I didn’t even ask for their advice. I just wanted to be left alone. The same staff touching my hair to check if it was really wet when I asked to borrow a hair dryer was super weird. (I’m a woman.) Maybe someone experiences differently than me but the truth is it was a stressful stay for me. When I said I didn’t need change for the accommodation fee I paid, he didn’t even say “thank you”. It’s really my fault to choose to stay at this place. I should have chosen more decent ones.
