Swanendele Inn

Everyone at the Inn was very friendly and welcoming. I arrived a bit later than expected — I called ahead to give them notice of my delay — and Gerald was there to get me settled in. Breakfast was delicious with homemade bread, fresh fruit, egg dishes and/or eggs to order. The coffee/tea bar near my room was great; I used it everyday. I appreciated the decaf options too. Victoria was helpful and willing to work around my departure schedule. The view of the water is gorgeous at all times of day. Absolutely loved this peaceful property!

We wanted to visit Point Lookout State Park at the southern tip of St Mary’s County, Maryland in late September hoping to see Monarch butterflies before they make their migration to Mexico. We could make the trip in a day but chose to linger a bit in the area. We decided on the Swanendele Inn because it looked promising. It exceeded our expectations. We had an extended conversation with the owner Gerald Meyerman about the incredible furnishings and his professional life. The inn is furnished with very good pieces that he and his wife collected from around the world. Gerald told us fascinating stories about many of them. He is a good storyteller. Our room was well furnished but not overly so. The room was clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable. The view of the water outside our window was beautiful. The next morning, we were served a very hearty and healthy breakfast before going on our way. I wish we could have stayed longer. I would certainly stay here again.

Breakfast is always amazing. It is made to order when you come down.
