B&B Porta Nuova

I recommend it especially for the tourist traveling solo or a pair who can handle close quarters. It is inexpensive and is located right near the New Gate, which is near a beautiful park and the main market (Vucciria) that has a lot of shopping and restaurants. What elevates the place was Marco. He was very friendly and helpful for someone visiting for the first time and recommended a street food place nearby that had two local-only sandwiches that have been my favorite food in all of Italy: Panino con la milza and the Panino con panelle crocchè e melenzane, a block away at Nono u Ballerino. All kidding aside, I will be trying to find a way to return to Milano (from Washington, DC) just so I can have those sandwiches again! The downside of the room is that the bathroom is cramped and is best for someone who is not tall. I am 5’8” and had a hard time seeing myself in the mirror. So if you can adjust your expectations in that one way (I was in Apt A), I think you’ll live the location as the friendliness of Marco. And don’t skip the sandwiches!

The location was excellent for exploring the historic part of Palermo and for going further afield. The view from the front was the Porta Nuova and from the back you could see the mountains rising. 25 min walk from the central train station and near bus routes too. The host was really helpful with lists of attractions to see and foods to try, and was very hospitable.

I think the decor would benefit from a refresh.

Location is good central to all of the sites

The shower was the size of a coffin. So anyone bigger than 1.80 meters going to struggle to have a shower.
