Active Life Exclusive B&B

It was very a nice stay at Active live B&B. Very kind staff, good breakfast and great gym.

This accommodation property is run by a local association which engages in various locally based socially-oriented activities. Almost like an NGO and easygoing. Despite this, the staff are very friendly and helpful - attentive to individual requests, which might seem contradictory. I chose this inland location because it’s close enough to both the Adriatic and Ionian Sea coastlines, while offering a nearby respite from the madding summer crowds at the height of the European summer season. Being inland, the prices are also more reasonable and the place offers a much more authentic experience than if one simply stuck to the tourist itineraries. There a just a few rooms and you receive personal service. Cleanliness is a priority and it feels homely, without any feeling of tackiness. The rooms seem like they were renovated fairly recently and are all fitted with aircon, which is essential due to the intense heat in summer.

The location is in a residential area amidst ordinary working folk’s semi terraced houses. You are among the locals which can’t be a bad thing, although you need to walk a while (15 minutes or so) to get to the coffee shops and restaurants. Pavements are very narrow and municipal maintenance is somewhat lacking - though no fault of the accommodation provider! If you accept all that then it’s a nice and relaxing way of experiencing this unpretentious town.

The property was adequate, and reasonably well-managed. Nicely situated not far from the centre of town. Clean and easy to access. On road parking. Pleasant staff, especially breakfast and room service.

I was under the impression that it was family-run, whereas it turned out to be a (small) corporate business offering a variety of services. No problem with that, as such - except that it sold itself a little differently. The photos on the Bookings website, although accurate, are really flattering compared with the reality. The top-floor terrace with gazebo style loungers and view was very different and in fact unusable, especially due to the exceptionally hot weather conditions. Beyond being shown the terrace, there was no attempt to render it usable - and the same applies to the gym/fitness room (also on the top floor) which is without aircon, and therefore unusable in such hot weather. The "Active Life Exclusive" handle of the establishment is a bit of a misnomer, because it's more of a regular B&B without the frills. The terrace/gym photos look good on the website but add no real value - at least not in summer weather conditions, especially such as these. In other words, it's a bit of a gimmick.
