LOCATION: Botleigh Villa is a stones throw from the M2, and walking distance to Rochester's historic center. It's really easy to find.
PROPERTY: A Victorian terrace three story home which has been renovated to a high, modern standard. It's located on quiet residential road, overlooking the river Medway, with lovely, unspoiled views. The rooms are spacious, bright, airy, tastefully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Kettle, tea, coffee, fresh milk, and water was provided.
Linen and towels are obviously professionally laundered.
The ensuite is roomy, with a modern walk-in shower. If there's one thing which can ruin a stay, that's a bad shower, that's too cramped, luke, warm and no pressure. I like a hot shower with good pressure, that I can stand under, and have enough room to turn around. I'm pleased to say that's exactly what I had at Botleigh. What's more, I didn't need to turn the tap to fully hot.
Bed was lovely and large, very comfortable, mattress was perfect firmness for me.
BREAKFAST: The breakfast room is on the basement level. It's bright, with big French doors, a terrace, and an unobstructed view. I stayed for two nights, first morning I had the omelet option, second morning I had scrambled eggs. Both were cooked to perfection, lovely and light, and the portion size was huge. Also available was toast with a selection of preserves, a self serve buffet of fruits, yoghurts, pastries, cereals, orange juice, and a big pot of tea or coffee.
Really great breakfast.
HOSTS: A pair of cockney sparrows who upped sticks and moved down to Rochester, refurbished the house, and opened up Botleigh as a boutique hotel. They're very hospitable welcoming hosts, extremely accommodating, and it's clear they love being in hospitality. They're a nice couple who are proud of their home, its views, and will happily have a chat. They make you feel at home.
