I’m splitting the over all review here. To begin with, this place charged us the highest currency conversion rate we experienced in Sri Lanka, even higher than several 4- and 5-star hotels. When questioned, they said it was “as per the bank,” but they clearly applied the selling rate instead of the buying rate, which makes no sense when paying a hotel bill. We arrived around 5 PM, and the manager was unavailable when I asked about the exchange rate. When she later explained, she showed the selling rate of a random bank, higher than airport rates and other hotels we stayed at. She also mistakenly swiped another guest’s bill of around USD 250 instead of our USD 83. Although it was reversed later, it was an avoidable error. The room was okay, but there were a lot of mosquitoes, no chairs inside the room, and the balcony was unusable due to mosquitoes. The floor mats were extremely slippery—we almost injured ourselves multiple times and had to remove them entirely. These mats clearly need to be replaced.

We opted for breakfast on only one day of our three-night stay, which was the right decision. The Lankan platter looked good but some dishes were not fresh, and better, cheaper food is available at Hela Bojun Hala nearby. Fresh milk was provided in the room, which was nice. However, while the manager helped with luggage during check-in, there was no assistance at check-out. Despite informing staff we’d leave in 15 minutes, we were made to wait for payment verification while our taxi waited outside in heavy cyclone rain. Overall, the stay was average, but the poor handling of payments, lack of transparency, and inconvenient service left a bad impression.

Location is good- between the beach and the main road. Room was clean, had mosquito net.

the AC was not working well, not cooling enough. Finally we managed to get just OK temperature but is took very long and the cooling didn’t work properly. Hot water was not available when we showered in the night around midnight. Seems the focus more on restaurant rather than guests staying in the rooms. Centre of Unawatuna is pretty loud (loud restaurants, music) so be aware when choosing accommodation if you prefer calm quiet location it might not be good choice.

Daffodil is the best Restaurant in Unawatuna, they have just 4 rooms to rent. The staff is very nice and the management as well. The owners are an English girl who married a Sri Lankan man. They have had Daffodil for 8 years. I can only highly recommend you to stay here and also to eat here

There was nothing I didn't like. A perfect place

The bed was king size. Soft pillows. Good mattress. Room size was bigger than expected. Breakfast was AMAZING!

We like the location and the comfortable bed and bathroom and a really nice terrace.

Outbreaks of electricity very often in the building and internet almost never working.

Wir sind sehr froh, dieses kleine Hotel gefunden zu haben. Saubere und komfortable Zimmer. Ein kleiner Balkon. Mitten im Geschehen und trotzdem relativ ruhig. Aber das Beste ist das fantastische Frühstück. Aber auch das Abendessen hat uns absolut begeistert. Wir werden definitiv wieder kommen. Vielen Dank für alles.

Nur eine Kleinigkeit. Ein kleiner Tisch neben dem Bett wäre super. Wir hatten uns einen Stuhl geborgt.
