Jessies Guest House Seychelles

There’s absolutely nothing good about this accommodation—just like everyone else said in the reviews, but I didn’t listen. The first time i'm giving a 1 rate in all my years of travelling.

Let me start with the not-so-nice lady who owns this place. I sent her a few messages before my arrival, including asking how to get to the property, but never got a reply—even now, after checking out. I also wrote to her on WhatsApp, and still no answer. But when I arrived, she had her phone in her hand. You can only pay cash in rupees at a rate that she decides is "the rate of the day." I went to a nearby exchange to change euros, but of course, that wasn’t the rate I actually paid, so I ended up paying even more than the actual accommodation price. There was construction in the yard, and they were pouring concrete, so it was messy, loud, and you had to watch your step to avoid stepping in wet concrete. The room had no AC, and for those saying the fan was enough, I honestly don’t know how 40°C inside a room is "okay." I took a chocolate out of the fridge, and in less than 10 minutes, it had melted. I feel like it’s inhumane to rent out a room in these conditions. The room also had a bad smell, likely from mold, and it was clear that cleaning wasn’t really done properly. Speaking of cleaning—when they "cleaned" my room, they unplugged all my chargers and even closed the sockets (who does that?!). Also, I was just one person, but when I checked in, I had towels for two. After the first cleaning, they took away half of them for no reason. As for breakfast, people said it was so good, but honestly, you just get some fruit and a tiny omelet. When I asked for an extra omelet, the host refused, saying that she had already cleaned the kitchen—even though it was still between the official breakfast hours (7:30-10 AM)! A few days before checking out, I asked if I could have breakfast at 7 AM because I had to leave for the airport, and the answer was no, because breakfast is at 7:30. If you're considering booking this place, think twice. There are so many other accommodations at a cheaper price, with way nicer hosts.

Nice place to enjoy Mahé Island. Only 5min walk to the beach. A 10min drive to Victoria. Very good family restaurant and take aways few minutes walk. And the supermarket 50 meters away. Jessie lives there, so if you need anything she will always be ready to help. She was very kind to accommodate our needs. We had the feeling to be like home. We enjoyed seating there in the small garden with mango trees and flowers. We were 7 adults so we could have the space almost for us. The home made breakfast was just delicious, even with fruits from Jessie’s garden. In the main living room you have 2 fridges where you can put your drinks or take aways food. The room #1 is the deluxe family room. It seems to be the best. With fridge and Air conditioning. Nice bathroom. The room #5 is the deluxe double room. Good for 2 adults with 1 child or 3 adults as the rooms are kind of separated. But the air conditioning is not in the main room with the double bed but in the one of the single bed. Not the best to cool down the main room. No fridge there. Our friends didn’t like the plastic curtains in the shower. (In room #5 they were in textile). The room #3 is the double room . Basic, so cheapest of the 3 rooms we had. No air conditioning, just fan. Just before departure, my friends showed me their room, to confirm what they had for 4 days: strong smell of mold. We didn’t have time to discuss that with Jessie. But this should be for sure addressed.

Breakfast was lovely, I loved the fresh juice and fruits. The host was friendly and ensured that her guests were not disturbed by noisy guests.

The worst encounter right upon arrival, the woman at the reception being surely the rudest person I have met during 4 weeks of traveling the Indian Ocean. When I pointed out that the room didn’t seem to be what it looked like on the pictures, she told me “You can go to another hotel, I don’t care”, then left the property, then told me over the phone that I still had to pay even if I wanted to leave and then just hang up while I was talking to her. The next day my phone charger got damaged during house keeping. No apologies, no reparations were offered. Finally, she charged me 7% above the agreed price from booking - to be paid in cash. Needless to say that it is difficult to feel comfortable in such an atmosphere. The room without AC and poor service are definitely not worth the money. The most unpleasant experience of my entire trip.

I really liked the familiar atmosphere with the hosts every morning, the clean and thoughtfully equiped guesthouse within a beautifull garden (felt like beeing in the jungle), the comfy bed and well equiped room and the awesome breakfast: fresh fruits (often from the own garden), scrambled eggs/omelette, fresh toast, sweet bakery... after this emperors meal i was ready to go to the beach (10' by foot) or explore the island otherwise. Btw: if you have a car, there is enough parking space for several guests 👍Price-Quality is unbeatable.

There is nothing to complain. It is not a 5 star hotel, obviously, but I'd choose this familiar, honest to the bone, comfy accomodation any time before paying a fortune.
