La Canonica Di Nusenna

Simone and Alessio couldn’t have been more welcoming. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Simone recommended local restaurants and even gave my husband and I an itinerary of lesser known mountain villages that we spent the day visiting. The B&B is beautiful, impeccably decorated with a mixture of antiques and modern art. I highly recommend having dinner at their restaurant. It’s several courses, all of which are delicious!

I was surprise to learn the B&B’s restaurant was only open one evening per week. Nusenna is a very small village with no amenities. It’s a 20 minute drive over switchback roads to reach the nearest restaurant. With that being said, knowing Simone and Alessio, I’m sure they would have been happy to make us dinner or lunch had we requested it.

Wow! I think one of the owners was a former gourmet chef. Everything was homemade and not just the typical European breakfast. Fresh baked goods and fruit and juice stood out! Yum! Additionally, we opted to have dinner there one night (apparently they also open for dinner certain nights of the week). It's pricey but I think it was literally a 12 course meal. oh my goodness! The food was 'foody-like', unique and amazing! Spend the extra money to have this experience. My two kids loved everything we ate that night too. Regarding the rooms: AC, comfy beds and a boutique hotel atmosphere. Such a unique home/B&B experience. Lots of antique and historic furniture, artwork and décor. So beautiful! The owners were also friendly and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful experience in the Tuscany region!

There isn't a room that holds 4 people for 2 adults and 2 kids so you have to book 2 separate rooms. It wasn't a big deal in the long run but a little confusing at booking. In hindsight though, it was nice not having to share a room with our kids. lol!

I can't emphasise enough how beautiful it was to stay at Canonica. The location of the Nusenna itself is perfect if you want quiet and peaceful stay in the heart of Chianti (with no tourists in sight). Canonica is clean, tidy but full of character. Mid century style furniture and decorations are top quality, bed is amazing and we slept like babies. We are really thankful to our host Simone for suggesting beautiful places to visit in Chianti - including local vinery that I fell in love with, and chef (I believe his name is Alessio) for making one of the best dinners we had in Italy - and we did have some really nice ones. Breakfast is a real show stopper and you can see (and taste) that it's made with love (and some ingredients too).

The Canonica is simply stunning, every detail is well thought and Simone and Alessio are incredible hosts. The trip to get to the property adds to its magic and dining “al fresco” is surely one of the many highlight of staying here. The breakfast was also delicious and well curated and as a cherry on top of the cake you’ll get some local tips from Simone while sipping your coffee. don’t even blink, the canonica is the place to book.
