Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Montrose

This property was clean, the staff (Kimmie was eagerly helpful when we arrived) & housecleaning & dining staff were exceptionally helpful and nice; the Uncompahgre River walking/biking trail was within three blocks from this Fairfield hotel in Montrose; the 5 blocks of Main St. of Montrose was within 1 mile from the hotel, so bikeable; coffee was available 24 hours a day (the male staff at the front desk, made me a fresh pot of decaf coffee at 4:30 PM); the breakfast consisted of a variety of foods of food: eggs (scrambled & omelets), and bacon or sausage, a waffle maker, cold cereal, yogurts, fruit; and we used the small swimming pool for aerobic exercise and the hot tub to relax our overused muscles at the end of the day. All in all, it was an excellent experience!

The hotel is clean and looks new, but housekeeping should have done a better job in vacuuming and cleaning and checking the bed to avoid incident of bed bug bites..

The view of the San Juan mountains was beautiful from our second floor window.

The smell in the hallways was not good. It smelled like a mixture of cinnamon and sewage.

Overall a decent hotel and stay. Good area with restaurants, breweries, food, and entertainment. There was an unexpected $100 non-refundable pet fee that was a shock. Most hotels are never above $40. The room was nice and clean but our whole floor had a sulfurous smell that had us wondering if there were plumbing problems. That was the main drawback. The price was a bit steep for what you get so keep that in mind as well.
