This was everything we were looking for. The Talavera was the perfect balance of everything we were looking for. We have done boutique hotels in the past, but more often than not we end up at either a hotel, or an air bnb. Other boutique hotels we've stayed at tend to be a little to pretentious, or weird in some way or another. The Talavera on the other hand, was neither. Not only that, but it checked about every box we could think of. The rooms, though clearly older, have been refreshed and are tastefully and clearly lovingly and thoughtfully put together. We chose the Puka suite based off the pictures online, and primarily what looked like the proximity of one of the pools to the room. While it almost looked like the pool was private and only for that room online, we were pretty sure it wasn't based off the description and pictures. That said, for our stay, the pool right outside the Puka suite might as well have been just for us, and it may literally have been the first day or two. The last half, I think we had neighbors staying in the suite next door, but everyone was so quiet, and kept to themselves, it almost felt like we had the whole hotel to ourselves. There were a few other couples we saw evidence of, but rarely ran into anyone but the occasional glimpse of a guest or staff. If you're looking for a fully staffed place to have someone there every second of your stay, I don't think this is the best fit, but if you want a peaceful, private, serene, and we think an overall wonderful experience, especially for a private, romantic couples' vacation, I don't know if you could do much better. The last place we stayed at, while it had its own unique charm, was a little gross, and sort of far outside palm springs. The Talavera, while clearly more expensive, was worth every penny. If I had to say there was a downside, that might be it, it's a little expensive, but for what you're getting, I do think it's worth it. For our mostly weekday vacation, it was doable. I did notice the weekend rate shot way up. Our one Friday night was about triple the cost of our weekday rate, so that one night cost about what the other three nights did. Overall, for what you get and averaging our the cost, you get a beautiful private room, beautiful private little backyard with your own private Jacuzzi, a little mini kitchen, a little mini living room, a spacious bathroom with shower, decent sized TV, and a pool you could use any time of day as long as you respect quiet hours from 9 PM - 9 AM, with your hotel right in downtown Palm Springs, walking distance from many great places, restaurants, shopping, etc.; as I said, I think this is about as good as you're gonna do at this price.
