"Epic father Son trip. We will be back!"

10.0

Charming staff, beautiful location and facilities, excellent value. Great starting place and base to explore central Honsu. A very relaxed Onsen. Local food in the area is excellent and extremely friendly and welcoming to non Japanese speakers.

Nothing bad about the property at all. Shopping in the near vicinity was a little sparse. Bring your gear.

"lovely traditional hotel with onsen and japanese style room. great location for the ski hill."

9.0

The location was great, right on the ski hill. They room was traditional and very comfortable. The onsen was fantastic.

There were not too many dinner options in the local area. The breakfast was Western and not very nice. The parking was not onsite.

"Really really disappointing, avoid"

4.0

I have stayed at a wide range of ryokans around the Nagano ski areas, this one was by far the most disappointing. The staff are very young foreign workers on working holiday visas that clearly have no hospitality training or experience First, realize this property is a 15 minute drive from Akakura Onsen where the majority of bars and restaurants are – there are narrow roads that appear on Google Maps that should connect the two towns but these aren’t plowed in winter. So if you’re staying here, consider hiring your own car, also the nearby Seki Onsen ski area is tiny and you'll want to go elsewhere. I can forgive the circumstances of the location but this place is really isolated, there are no other businesses open in this town, you need to eat but the food here was just awful. The breakfast was simply cheap bacon and sausage with an egg dish – the scrambled eggs were memorably inedible. We didn’t eat breakfast after day 2. We had to get dinner one night, unacceptably bad, the beef rice bowl was pretty standard fare but the shrimp fried rice had 3 tiny shrimp and the “Chinese chicken” had no actual chicken. And all this could be forgiven if they offered competitive prices but we paid over US$300 per night! I wouldn’t go back here and can’t recommend it but I am hopeful that someone can turn this place around because it would be a complete shame not to make the most of this property. Please get the staffing in order and offer some basic decent food.

"Lovely hotel in a peaceful location"

10.0

quiet and spacious hotel. our corner room was wonderful with windows (double for warmth) on 3 sides with lovely views. clean tatami mats but sleeping on western beds. great in-room shower but the onsen (on-site) was fantastic. Seki onsen itself was wonderful. the hotel itself is right next to this oldest ski resort in Japan which is still family- owned, had plenty of powder, and most importantly, was not overrun by Australians like in Akakura village. we had a car so accessing the other ski resorts nearby and going out to dinner was fabulous.

Breakfast wasn't that great but convenient because we just turned up (had toast with butter and packet jam, corn flakes (equiv) and hot breakfast with thin sausages, tiny bits of bacon, a bit of lettuce and barely edible eggs)... so can't really complain. no in-room fridge but one could borrow space from their bar.
