The location was great, and the facilities were ok for this close to the mountains.

First thing is the ridiculous rule of shutting the front door at night. Upon arrival, we were notified of the main door will be closed at 11 pm, and there will be no entering or exiting the facilities. This is not made clear in the listing or after booking the hotel, and this made watching the stars at night much more difficult which was one of the appeals of stay deep in the mountains. What made things even worse is that when we were going outside at around nine, the manager of the hotel told us that today he will be closing at 10 without giving any explanation, which is just completely arbitrary and unacceptable. Second is that I don't think the cleaning staff was very thorough here, as one of the room we booked had a horrible smell of death upon arrival. When we notified the front desk, they just came in with a bottle of air refreshener which was certainly not very reassuring. Third the hot springs were disappointing as well. When we went to the outdoor hot springs at around 8pm, it was barely lukewarm. Apparently the hot water has been turned off -- my guess is to save cost. Even after we turned it on, it stopped running just after a while, so in the end we cannot enjoy the outdoor hot spring. All in all for the price the experience was not worth at all whatsoever. Even though I understand it is difficult to get things up to this remote area, the hotel definitely could have stepped it up with their service. Essentially you will be getting motel service plus a curfew for the price at this place.

お風呂が10時で終わり。 ルールなので仕方ないですが、 ゆっくり入りたかったです。 遅く到着したため 受付の方はかなり不機嫌でした。 申し訳ございませんでした。

Great location near Chojibaru visitor information and trailheads from Tadewara wetlands and not far from Makinoto pass recommend stay 2 nights to do high and low hike. Room was lovely, western style room. Bath was great. Meals beautiful.

The cost was high, this related to Japan culture day long weekend holiday

The staff was very friendly. We arrived late for dinner (see below). The manager (or owner?) called a store and asked them to wait for us and close a bit later so we can get something to eat. Then he asked an employee to accompany us to the store. The area where the hotel is located is very nice. You can take some nice short walk around. The room was big for Japanese Standards.

It is not a fault of the hotel, but if you arrive late and you don't have a car like us, make sure that you have some food with you or that you have made dinner arrangements in advance. The few stores in the area close around 4 pm and you need a reservation to eat in one of the nearby hotels. Apparently the closest restaurant is around 20 km away.
