Frontier Drive Inn

The property was very clean easily accessible. The design and decor of the room was really neat and the view of the mountains were great for sunset! The common/shared area was perfect for hanging out. Wish we could have caught a movie during our stay but those are a weekend thing i guess. Overall great experience

This place is a marvel. Extremely tasteful, beautiful, and pleasant. Everything is just right and a perfect location for an art event or a small film festival. I am telling all my friends about it and look forward to being back.

Firepit won’t stay lit door code didn’t work until someone came no movies during weekdays. Cool place though might stay again

Frontier Drive-Inn This place is fantastic. The attention to detail, from the towels, sheets to the decor are outstanding. My daughter and I took a little road trip to Sand Dines NP then up to Salida at the beginning of November 2022. Found this place and since it was near San Dunes thought it would be a really cool place to stay. It definitely was, BUT it was cold…16 degrees to be exact. The yurts have pellet stoves which are great until the pellets run out. I should have filled up the entire hopper with pellets, but didn’t and was awoken twice during the night because it got REALLY cold when the pellets ran out. I’m not familiar with pellet heaters so that was an error on my part. The place is a little remote and we were the ONLY people there. There is no security gate so anyone could drive in and there was no staff around during our stay. Probably due to the time of year. The placement of the yurts is nice especially if you are traveling with other family/friends. The yurts are arranged in a circle with a nice fire pit in the center where you can hang out by a cozy fire. Each area has its own set of restrooms close by. Bathrooms are modern, CLEAN and heated and have a keypad entry and lock about 10 seconds after you enter. There are plenty of sinks and showers for several people at a time. We actually considered sleeping in there since it was heated. Sadly we arrived after dark and left the next morning in the dark, (when the remaining pellets ran out) so really didn’t get to see the entire grounds. I think this place would be great fun in the warmer months when they show movies. Our yurt was street side so we did hear the occasional traffic through out the night. You are out of town a ways so you can see thousands upon thousands stars. We did see the moon and Jupiter through the top of our yurt. We did not visit the snack area and since it was dark and cold, did not venture out to find it. Original neon sign is definitely a cool feature. Suggestions… Extra blankets just in case someone like me is unfamiliar with pellet stoves or for those brave enough to visit that late in the year.. The wool cover on the bed was not enough. Luckily we had a small fleece blanket that we brought in from the car an used the bath towels the Frontier provided. With all that being said we LOVED it and would absolutely stay here again if we’re in the area.

Loved that someone took the time to bring this drive inn back and add lodging. We stayed in the Quonset hut, it was amazing. So enjoyed sitting on the lawn and watching Sleepless in Seattle and the popcorn that was a nice touch. We will be back💕

The most amazing place to stay. The yurts are immaculate and gorgeous. Quaint. It was such a cute place. Great for our family and great for couples. I will for sure recommend to all our friends.

This is a very cool place and definitely would stay there again if we were ever in the area again (stayed in one of the Yurts). Convenient and worth the 40 minute drive to the Great Sand Dunes National Park! (I think there are some whitewater rafting opportunities within an hour as well, and a great place/area to stargaze). Pros: -Just a neat place. An old drive-in, turned into a glamping/hotel. -the Yurt and shared bathrooms were very clean -Met the projectionist, who’s parents used to own the place (nice guy). -Was fun being able to watch a movie on a big outdoor screen, with the provided popcorn. -The wood pellet stove did an excellent job heating the Yurt (got cold at night). Cons: -Nearest food option is about 12-15 miles away, though if you have a cooler, you can bring your own food and cook it in the available kitchen/snack bar (kitchen looked very clean, with excellent features). -There is no on site manager, so for example, by the time we went to sleep, the paper towels in the bathrooms were already used/gone and there were no extras to be found (they did thankfully have extra toilet paper). Not sure how available anyone is if there is an issue. Suggestions: - installing a coded gate for entry into the place (the yurts and bathrooms were all coded locks) -Have a snack machine available in the snack bar for purchase. Would be easy to maintain and stock and add to the movie theme.

The facility is beautiful and updated. The inn does not explain that two of the shed rooms do not face the movie screen. I booked early , 6 months ahead of time, thinking I would have a view but did not. Disappointed by the lack of description or customer service the inn provided. Had to watch the movies outdoors which is tough because of the mosquitoes. No AC in the room made it tough to get comfortable but opening the doors cooled it off quickly in the evening. This place has potential but needs some work to make it complete. Not sure the thought of staying at a drive inn theater without a view of the screen is the best idea. This was the reason we made the journey and were greatly disappointed.
