citizenM Menlo Park

I charged my card when i booked online so i can just check in when i get to the hotel. I went to a wedding near sacrament and drove all the way to Menlo Park to the hotel late night to check in. when my wife and i arrived we were told that they had no more rooms available even though i already had been charged and had a confirmation number. There were no more rooms at any of the hotels near by and my wife and i had to sleep in our van for the night. I waited a day or two for my refund and wasn’t given the same amount back but less than what i spent for a night to sleep in my own van with my wife.

We booked this hotel through Expedia early in the evening but when we arrived at the hotel around 11 pm from a long drive from LA we were told all of their rooms were sold out. There were at least 10 other people in the lobby who had the same problems. Why would anyone not communicate with the customers or Expedia about the rooms being sold out? That would be the question for management. It took us almost an hour and a half to find another hotel in Concord because all the hotels in the area were sold out or had raised their rate to $400 or more. Took another hour and a half to get to Concord and settled for the night. This seems like a nice hotel and it could have been a great experience but this is terrible and made me not want to come back to this area again. Be aware that if you’re going to book this hotel make sure they have an actual room for you because you will be left stranded in the middle of the night. There will be no communication from the hotel period.

Location was minutes from the city, but in an area that is very quiet. Easy to get to the 101. And the hotel is adorable. Colorful, eclectic, and fun. The room is compact but not tight. I love the iPad controls.

Room size was a bit small, got that dorm/capsule vibe. There's a constant rotting smell coming from the marsh area across the street...so unless you want to ride a borrowed bike along the marsh for fun, I would suggest to stay indoors.

The only thing It was missing was a dolly to take my stuff up to my room, since it took me more than one trip to bring my things up. Everyone was super nice and helpful.

Everything was great, but this was my first time trying citizenM breakfast and, and tbh I don’t think it’s worth it. They offer a decent amount of fruits / pastries / yogurts in addition to the main breakfast items (mostly breakfast sandwiches), but I thought the main breakfast items themselves were not that good. I don’t think the $22 / day price is justified unless you have kids maybe AND you know for certain you’ll use the breakfast every day of the stay. Also I wish the breakfast was selectable per-day instead of across the entire stay. That’s why the amenities category is slightly below all the others. Staff, cleanliness, area were all amazing.

This is a unique concept in hoteliering. A room controlled almost wholly with a smart device - in this case…an iPad…a seamless check in experience without a lot of human interaction
