Apartment Borovje-River View

I found this a difficult review to write as the apartment is lovely with a great balcony and a nice view of the river. It also has a free parking space that comes with the apartment. The whole place has been furnished very nicely. It has a few supermarkets and bakeries nearby. A very helpful and responsive owner and he allowed us to enter early by changing the code on the door. The tram is about an 8 minute walk away and takes you into Zagreb. The tram now goes a slightly different route but does go to the main square in about 35/40 minutes. I think it's the 6. I would give this apartment a 9 or 10 if it hadn't been for the smoke.

The reason I had difficulty writing the review is the apartment and owner are great BUT unfortunately our stay was ruined by the awful stench of stale smoke that hit us as soon as we entered. The apartment is supposed to be 'No Smoking' and even has a little 'No Smoking' sign so whoever was in the flat before us ignored it. I contacted the owner who said the cleaner had asked the previous renter about the smoke smell and had been told that they had only smoked on the balcony. This was not the case as the inside of the apartment stank of smoke and made us feel sick, it was so overpowering. We aired it for hours with the balcony doors open and the front door open but whatever we did the stale smell of smoke would not go. Even after 3 days the smell was still there. We had to sleep in this smoke filled atmosphere and it was extremely unpleasant. It actually ruined what could have been a lovely stay. A couple of other things - the road in front of the balcony could be noisy and the kettle is broken and won't go to boiling so no good for tea!

Quite and clean neighborhood with everything you need nearby. The apartment was clean and the host was super helpful and responsive. There is a nice view towards green fields around the river and we really enjoyed our stay in Zagreb.
