It has been now four weeks that I've been trying to wrestle back the deposit. They won't refund it to the credit card. They won't pay it into a bank account identified by IBAN/BIC. They won't pay it through PayPal. At some stage, my mails to them started bouncing back as undeliverable. Then they stopped answering my SMS. Their website is a primitive fake. My contact's phone number has the mainland China country code. Looks like an offshore operation, feel free to figure out its purpose. The apartment itself was OK, well-maintained, nothing to complain about in this regard. Its only downside is its location - in a row of town houses that has two abandoned lots strewn with litter including mattresses and tyres, with broken windows boarded up with plywood. A neighbour's house has a roll of military-grade razor wire on the town-house border. This area is a high-crime one, with on average four incidents reported daily. Access to the town house is from a back lane that is poorly lit at night, adding to the overall feeling of apprehension. There were no keys in the keysafe, and it took several calls to locate local staff who finally guided me to a reserve safe in the garden shed. I'm not inclined to make any big fuss about that, but still, not a pleasant experience.
