Small size, just one couple and us, staff (Iwan, manager) very focus on customers and nice/accommodating for our food requests (vegan)

Limited choices in the menu, although very accommodating, considering the resort is isolated and you have to est there breakfast, lunch and dinner. Street to get there pretty rough, don’t be worried if you arrive at night and you don’t see the lights, it’s there!

I loved the personal feel, and the tranquility of the accommodation.

Lovely rooms

It's a family-owned resort, stand right by the beach. Iwan, the manager of the resort, picked us up from the airport. He speaks English well and very friendly. So upon our arrival till departure, all the staffs there, Iwan, Orfi and Angel, were so helpful and tried to make our stay convenient, and to this, we may say they did a super job. 👏👏👏

The resort is located quite in a remote area, though it's right by the beach. Not many activities you can do in the resort, except swimming in the pool or in the beach. They provide bicycles which we didn't have time to try it. If you are a quiet, calm and relaxed type of traveller, this resort must be perfect for you.

It was the best experience of staying here! Everything was perfect at this villa! The level of service was the best imaginable - we were greeted in the evening with fresh coconut cocktails and delicious spring rolls. We settled in and had a tasty dinner with a great selection of fresh dishes. The next day we went on a day-long excursion, and Ivan was very attentive and caring, offering us lunch boxes to take with us so we wouldn't go hungry. When we returned from the excursion, we were greeted with cool cocktails, dinner, traditional dances performed by lovely girls, and music played on the Handpan Drum instrument in honor of the local holiday celebrated every March on the island. The rooms were perfectly clean with designer decor. In conclusion, I would give this place 6 stars, as everything was perfect for our stay. Thank you so much to Ivan and his team for a wonderful vacation at your villa! Will definitely recommend to friends!

The property its self is beautifully designed.

The property is not finished; there was no hot water during, and it is very far away from any other shops/restaurants. The in-house menu is very limited. They have a bar, but it's missing the simple things, i.e. Beer and soda water. The property is on the beach; the prevailing winds and tides mean that the beach is covered in plastic. You should note that the beach is volcanic sand which is lovely but not white sand. The local fishermen are based right outside of the hotel. The price for what you get when you compare it to other properties on the island is far too high. They are trying, but they are not there yet.

We stayed at Kandora for three nights in March of 2024. It was an absolutely delightful stay. Our room was wonderful. It was spotless and decorated beautifully. We had a large private living area and an elegant outdoor shower in an enclosed courtyard. We spent our days touring the eastern part of Sumba and walking and shell collecting on the endless beach which backs up to the Kandora. We swam daily in the Savu Sea and the beautiful Kandora pool. Our meals, especially breakfast, were delicious. The staff at Kandora are incredible. Iwon manages the hotel and saw to our every need from personally meeting us at the airport to preparing our evening cocktails. Angela and Chef Dwi prepared great meals served by Mia. Kandora’s location on the northeast coast of Sumba is ideally situated to explore the rich heritage and natural resources of the eastern part of the island. Our Sumbanese driver Michael spoke perfect English and his local knowledge was enlightening . After a day of exploring there is nowhere better to return to than the luxury and comfort of the Kandora and its amazing staff. We really hated to leave and in retrospect wished we had stayed a few more days.
