Amazing stay at Dom Jose. Rita checked us in and she is amazing. Reached out to me the day before and advised to me that my room would be ready early. She gave great recommendations on things to do and where and what to eat. The room is beyond spacious and beautiful!!!! Really convenient to walk around everything from the hotel. The garden is really cute. Thxs for an amazing stay and thanks again Rita!!!

Stayed for 3 nights in early March initially and as Covid was kicking off they stayed open for us to stay an extra night to arrange alternative flight arrangements. Bang in the centre, an easy 10 minute walk to either bus or rail station..we chose the bus as there are direct links to Porto airport. Rooms 1 or 2 are the best, but more expensive...our room was large and comfortable with rear facing aspect. Buffet breakfast was more than adequate. Reception manned 24 hours a day..we will always be grateful for their help and hopefully we shall return.

A beautiful mansion settled in a road behind Largo do Toural (where the Basílica-Cathedral of São Pedro is), so this Local Accommodation is very central for whom that have an eye for discovering the History of Guimarães and, of course, the History of Portugal - which started here and also in the neighbour city of Braga. This is an old stoned construction that was refurnished though they always worked out to keep the old facade (anyway, in these old cities like Oporto, Braga, Guimarães, etc, the law does not permit any kind of changes to the old facades of any building and that's really a plus because these cities preserve the old atmosphere and that's undoubtedly a plus for the visitors, who can live and learn more about these cities' History.). So, the visit will have the experience to sleep in an old mansion that remind us of living in the XIX century... There are 4 or 5 types of rooms, in a total of 9 rooms. We stayed in a twin room, the room nr 8, that is on the second floor. It is quite large, anyway we rearranged it because the beds are separated but we joined them and we really got extra space and we got an extra large bed!! The bathroom is large with a very large shower, shampoo-shower gel-soap are provided. The breakfast is from 7.30am to 10am and it is varied. The room where the breakfast is served is on the first floor and it is the same room where the owner's family used to have their meals when they were inhabiting the mansion, at the end of XIX century. Fruits, yoghurts, fruit juices (juices from package but my husband said they are ok, not too sweet), milks, coffee and chocolate options, teas, a variety of local croissants, breads and local pastry. Cheese,ham, chorizo and jams are provided. With the sound of a melodic music, breakfast turns to be a quiet moment in the house. There is a backyard, not big but enough to have relaxed moments after a day walking or cycling the city. We stayed for 7 nights because we wanted to visit the city at a leisurely pace! About the staff, the ladies at the breakfast and reception (Nadia) is in fact very helpful and makes everything happen, and also from the room service, but the boy in the reception (Ruben) is not so "open" or talkative. Rooms nr 4, 8 and 9 are on the second floor and are facing the street. Rooms nr 1 and 2 are on the first floor and those are the biggest double rooms, also these keep the old construction and classical furniture, with the original windows (must be noisier than the upper floor rooms because they don't have double glass windows). The other rooms are facing the backyard so they are quiet rooms at night.

I had a wonderful experience. Very clean, modern, newly renovated, but still has it's old world charm. Stayed in a large double room. Breakfast was great! Location is perfect for exploring the old part of the city. I'd highly recommend this hotel! Staff were super friendly.
