"Comfy!"

10.0

I was pleasantly surprised, I booked this on accident and was unable to cancel due to me realizing too late. To keep this short don’t be discouraged from the location, it’s what Austin is about anyway. I was skeptical but once I stepped inside greeted by a kitty and a young man I was impressed. The room was clean the tv was nice and the showers although communal were lockable. Enjoyed this very unique experience! No problem with check out or with hidden fees as soon as we checked out our deposit was returned!

"Don't stay in winter or on a Saturday night. "

4.0

Don't visit in the winter--there is no means of heating these rooms. This is an abandoned nursing home, that probably had a boiler and radiators back in the day--no more. The rooms do have a working toilet but no showers -- the bath was "down the hall". I didn't try that because there was no hot water. I looked at Room 104 and stayed in 106. 104 had a dying smoke detector that needed new batteries, it was chirping loudly. I asked the guy working there (who spoke almost no English) if we could change the batteries in the smoke detector, but he just left it beeping and gave me the room next door--where I still heard the chirping but not quite as loudly. 106 had no smoke detector at all, just the empty bracket where one had been, so I didn't have THAT problem. The problem I did have was the Karaoke bar next door to the property that blared Tejano music into the room until they closed around 2 am. I mean it was can't hear your own TV loud. Also, the rooms had window air conditioners but it was January and they had NO HEAT. It was 56 degrees in the room, and the bed had no blankets--just a sheet and a thin bedspread. I was freezing. I had to sleep in my sweater. Quite a night. Life is too short to sleep in abandoned nursing homes. Might be bearable in the summer on a Tuesday.

"Converted Nursing Home. "

6.0

This is one of the more unique hotels I have stayed at because it was clearly a converted nursing home. Somedony was dropped off at a home depot and told "here is $500 make this abandoned nursing home room into a hotel room". This is what you would get. Hey, everything was there--TV, Refrigerator, Microwave, shower... just in a different sort of way.

"Met or exceeded my expectations based on past experiences staying here"

8.0

Nice staff. Affordable at a so-so price; I don't feel like I got robbed, and there are definitely worse options. No disturbances during this visit. Not for everyone, but adequate for my needs. And not sure what it is, but I really love the fragrance they use.

The AC in my room worked, but the controls were broken, so the only options were to allow it to run or unplug it to turn it off. (Aside from my own comfort, I would have preferred to be able to not leave it running constantly for the benefit of the hotel i.e. in order to not waste energy, especially when I left the room for the day. But between the option of wasting energy and coming back to a slightly chilly room vs not wasting energy but coming back to a room that was way too warm and needing to wait for it cool down, I went for the cooler option.) I'm still kind of disappointed by the lack of curtains on the windows. I also feel weird/bad that when using the shared/community showers, you basically need to and are expected to lock everyone else out because even though there are three individual showers, they're not private unless you lock the door. All the shower curtains are transparent. There are hostels that do shared/community shower rooms that allow as many people to using them simultaneously as the number of showers they contain. Here, though, it seems you're expected not to do that. So I feel a little bit of anxiety about others not being able to use the other showers at the same time that I'm showering and also anxiety over the possibility of finding the shower room locked when I go to use it. (That didn't happen during this stay, however.) It doesn't have to be this way.

"surveys are only relevant to expectations and experience, personally i would recommend La Unica."

8.0

Staff, cleanliness and a decent mattress. Hispanic neighbourhood was particularly nice as this always means good family run street food, Taqueria la Cascada is just across the road. Bus stop to Downtown is also very close.

Having white venetian blinds with a light outside is always going to leave the room room lit up at night, this is my only complaint. This aside, accommodation and staff were excellent for a 2 star rating :)

"One night stay to be close to airport only."

3.0

Cheap. Basic room, laminate floors, tv, fridge, good fan. Staff were nice.

Bathroom had not been cleaned, hair in the shower drain and on the floor. Specks of red/brown on shower tiles and floor- looked like ?blood stains. Bed appeared clean however sheets are multicoloured likely to hide stains.

"Decent & budget friendly lodging place!"

10.0

Decent place, budget friendly, peaceful and quiet! It is a refurbished/repurposed nursing home, but it was no problem to us. It was as comfortable as any other hotel stay I've been at. The only thing that made us a little iffy was the community showers. Its 3 showers in one room, but you can lock the door so no one else goes in. It was real clean, the bed was soft, it had a microwave, a small fridge, your own bathroom, tv, drawers and desk with chair.
